How to Prepare for CLAT in Six Months - Learn

The first step, even for students who have started studying for CLAT, is learning the topics and sub-topics under each subject of CLAT. Students should go through any decent coaching's module or any prominent CLAT guide to learn about each topic. Broadly speaking, English comprises of Reading Comprehension, Grammar and Vocabulary, Logical Reasoning of Analytical Reasoning (Puzzles, Coding-Decoding etc) and Critical Reasoning (Paragraph Based Questions, Cause-Effect etc), Legal Aptitude of Law of Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law and Constitutional Law, Elementary Mathematics of multiple chapters (predominantly till Std. X level) like Number System, Speed, Time and Distance, Time and Work etc and General Knowledge of Static GK (History, Geography, Science etc) and Current Affairs (broadly the Current Affairs of May 2018 to May 2019).

The first lap of any CLAT aspirant's study plan should comprise of learning topics, tricks, concepts across all subjects. Don't restrict yourself to just one source but learn concepts from multiple sources.

How to Prepare for CLAT in Six Months - Apply

The next step is applying the learnt concepts. After an aspirant is done learning a concept, he should should practice questions from multiple sources. This is especially applicable to subjects like Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Books like R.S. Aggarwal, Pearson Objective English, Lucent Objective GK, besides modules of coaching centres can be used for practicing questions.

Tip: Once you're done practicing enough questions on a topic, practice a few more questions on the same topic in a time-based manner, with your timer on. Say, calculate how much time it takes to solve 10 questions of a topic. If it takes 10 minutes, try solving the next 10 questions in 9 minutes and so on. Level I of preparation is accuracy and Level II is speed.

How to Prepare for CLAT in Six Months - Evaluate

The next important step of your preparation journey is solving Mocks - a lot of them. Mocks will help you in staying grounded and will help you know your current status of preparation in an objective way. However, don't take more than 1 Mock every 3-4 days. Make sure you're attempting the Mock in conditions as close to the actions test conditions and it should be completed within the stipulated time.

How to Prepare for CLAT in Six Months - Analyse

Taking of a Mock is only 20% of the task done. You'll only be able to fully utilize each Mock once you analyse it thoroughly. Any Mock you take that you don't analyse is a Mock wasted.

How to analyse a Mock Test during CLAT Preparation?

  1. Create a separate Mock Analysis Copy.

  2. Divide it into five sections and devote the maximum space to GK, Logic and Mathematics.

  3. Following is the strategy of analysing each section individually. Remember to focus only on incorrect, skipped or missed questions. You can afford to ignore already correct questions for now.

  • General Knowledge: Read each questions with its correct answer and explanation. Now, summarize its most important points and write it in the GK section of your copy. An example: New Delhi - Capital of India - changed from Calcutta in 1911.

  • Logical Reasoning and Mathematics: SOLVE. Solve all questions except the ones you got right. Solve it in your copy itself. Refer to explanations for the ones you're not able to understand and ask doubts from your mentors where even explanation doesn't suffice.

  • Legal Aptitude: For Legal Knowledge questions, follow the same strategy as the General Knowledge questions (of summarizing and writing it in your own words). For Legal Reasoning questions, read the question again and try and understand why you got the question wrong. Refer to explanation also for the same.

  • English: For Reading Comprehension and Grammar based questions, solve it then and there and understand why you got it wrong. For Vocabulary questions, note them down in your Mock Analysis Copy and revise it periodically.

Remember: Any Mock you take that you don't analyse is a Mock wasted

How to Prepare for CLAT in Six Months - Revise

The last step is revision of your complete course. For revision, it is always wiser to devote some time to it everyday rather than waiting for the last 1-2 months for complete revision. Till December end, devote 1 hour daily to revising some topic or the other and from January itself, increase the revision time to 1.5-2 hours daily. Increase this even further in the last two months. Without proper revision, you'll not be able to make maximize the output which you deserve owing to the efforts you've put in during months and months of CLAT preparation.

So that's about it! Five steps. Follow them rigorously to ace CLAT 2019.
