About CLAT 2020

National University of Study And Research In Law (NUSRL), Ranchi has postponed CLAT 2020, which was slated to be held on May 10. The entrance exam will now be conducted on May 24, in offline mode.  The Full Form of CLAT is Common Law Admission Test. CLAT 2020 will be held at more than 60 centres around the country for admitting candidates to undergraduate law programs offered by the 22 participating NLUs. The total CLAT-based seat intake for UG is 2538. The application form of CLAT 2020 has commenced on January 1; last date to submit application form has been extended from March 31 to April 25 in view of the COVID-19 outbreak. The admit card of CLAT 2020 will be released around the 1st week of May. 

The CLAT consortium has, on November 21, approved key changes to the exam pattern for the new session, including reducing the number of questions to 150 from 200. Also, comprehension-based questions will be asked from Quantitative Techniques, English, Current Affairs, Deductive Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. The reduction in number of questions is done to reduce the mental stress on candidates, explained Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR . 

CLAT 2020 result will be declared tentatively in the first week of June. Apart from the 22 participating NLUs, many private universities will also use CLAT 2020 scores for admission purpose.

Based on CLAT 2020 scores, admission will be offered to various law programs like BA LLB, B.Sc LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB, and BSW LLB. The minimum eligibility criteria for appearing in the national-level exam is a 10+2 pass scoring minimum 45% marks (relaxation in minimum marks applies to reserved categories). Also, there is no upper age limit for appearing in CLAT 2020.

The law aspirants need to check CLAT 2020 eligibility criteria to ensure they follow the right protocols prescribed for the admission process; refer the bullet points given below for complete details.

Eligibility requirement for UG program:

  • Qualifying exam: The candidate must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam from a recognised university or board.
  • Marks in qualifying exam: General category candidates need minimum 45% marks in the qualifying exam,  while SC and ST candidates need only 40% marks.
  • Age limit: There is no upper age limit for appearing in CLAT 2020

CLAT application form 2020 has been released in online mode on January 1; last date to apply for CLAT 2020 is April 25. When filling the CLAT 2020 application form, one must use only genuine and verifiable information; if caught sharing false information, one can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process. Also, it is recommended that the candidate goes through the information brochure and understands all the nuances so that the application process is simple and error-free.  For example, the candidate can check out what exam centres are available, or what are the specifications of the images that have to be uploaded (which is also included here for the convenience of the candidate).

How to fill CLAT 2020 application form

  • Registration: The first step in the application process, the candidate has to register by entering details their name, email id, mobile number, and other details. 

  • Fill in relevant details: The application form will have various sections like personal, academic and contact details which have to be duly filled.

  • Upload documents: Scanned copies of signature, photograph and other documents in prescribed specification (refer table below) has to be uploaded.

Candidates appearing in the national-level exam could access the CLAT 2020 mock test online. There are multiple benefits of taking CLAT mock test 2020, some of which are enumerated below:

  • Mock tests contain similar type of questions to those asked in the entrance exam. So, solving these problems will help the candidate judge the difficultly level of the exam and plan accordingly.

On exam day, the applicant needs to carry with them the admit card of CLAT 2020 without fail, along with a valid photo ID proof. 

The CLAT admit card would carry such details like the name and address of the exam venue, date and time of CLAT 2020 entrance exam, and roll number of the candidate. Candidates are also advised to carefully go through all the exam day guidelines mentioned on the CLAT 2020 admit card to stay out of trouble. Keep the CLAT admit card safe until the admission process is over.

The provisional answer key of CLAT 2020 will be released soon after the conduct of exam. By consulting keys given in the provisional CLAT 2020 answer key, the candidate will be able to calculate the number of questions they managed to respond correctly. Now using the official CLAT 2020 marking scheme, the candidate will be able to calculate the probable score, and in turn their chances of admission (use previous years' cutoff data for the purpose). Any candidate who has any objections regarding any of the key (s) will be allowed to filed objections. Authorities, after considering all complaints will release the final answer key of CLAT 2020. The keys given in the final CLAT 2020 answer key will be considered to be the final authority or correct answers to questions asked in the exam.

Candidates can access the CLAT 2020 result in online mode by logging in using their registration/application number and date of birth. The result would contain important details like the qualifying status of the candidate, section-wise and overall marks. After the declaration of the result, candidates will be shortlisted for the counselling and seat allotment process.

National University Of Study And Research In Law (NUSRL), Ranchi will release the cutoff of CLAT 2020 after the declaration of the CLAT result. The CLAT Cutoff 2020 is usually the minimum marks (or lowest rank) for which admissions into an NLU is offered. The various parameters on which CLAT 2020 cutoff would depend include - number of applications received for admission, sanctioned seat intake, performance of applicants in the entrance exam, etc.

Mode of Counselling: Online

Candidates who have qualified in the CLAT 2020 exam will be eligible to participate in the CLAT 2020 counselling process, which will be conducted in online mode sometime in 2nd week of June 2020. All eligible candidates will be issued counselling call letters, which has to be downloaded and taken a printout of. Next the candidate has to register for CLAT counselling 2020 online by clicking on the counselling link and providing user id/ registration id and password. As part of the counselling registration, one has to enter their choices of colleges and courses. The CLAT 2020 seat allotment will be based on both the merit rank of the candidate and choices opted for admission, so one needs to bear caution and only enter the best matches.  

Another feature of the CLAT 2020 counselling and seat allotment process is document verification, wherein all candidates need to get their documents verified. Only such candidates who successfully complete the verification will be deemed eligible for allotment, while rest will be disqualified.

The no.of questions asked will be reduced from 200 to 150 but the time duration will be the same
English: There will be no more direct vocabulary questions
GK: Static GK will be removed and only your knowledge on current affairs will be tested
Mathematics: Only DI based questions.
Logical Reasoning: More emphasis on critical reasoning questions
Legal Aptitude: No Legal GK questions but the reasoning questions will remain.

The CLAT exam syllabus has changed this year and shift to more aptitude side then remembering things.The no.of questions reduced from 200 to 120/125 but the time duration will be the same that is 2 hours.

Here are few tips for preparation you must follow to get a good score without coaching:-English: Vocabulary questions will be asked. Word Power Made Easyis the book you can use to improve your vocabulary.

High School Grammar and Composition ( by Wren and Martin)It is a book  to improve the grammar skills.

GK: Question on current affairs will be asked. Read newspaper for CURRENT G.K. than trying to grasp all info at once. Some of the newspaper sources which you can use to prepare this section are The Hindu, Financial Express, and The Economist. You can also use some other apps like Inshorts etc for current affairs.Mathematics: Only Data based questions will be asked. Like you have some information and questions on basis of that information.Logical Reasoning: Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis. These are some of the topics on which you can expect questions.

Common Law Admission Test is conducted every year for admission to LLB course in NLUs throughout the country.
The question paper will be based on the English language, Quantitative Techniques, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning.
General Knowledge here includes important events in contemporary world. So, history is not asked in CLAT paper. Only important events of recent past are included.
