A day after CNLU Patna published the CLAT 2017 Answer Key and Question Paper on May 16, 2017, CLAT 2017 takers have raised multiple doubts regarding some answers even as experts have claimed the presence of many erroneous questions and answer key discrepancies in the Common Law Admission Test paper held on May 14. The test takers have also suggested that one question of the CLAT 2017 online paper was out of the prescribed CLAT syllabus.
Further, the examination experts, in agreement with the test takers, have reported that more than seven questions are wrong in the official answer key of CLAT 2017 that was released on the evening of 16th May by the Common Law Admission Test Committee. “We suspect that more than 10 questions are wrong in the CLAT 2017 question paper. Either the questions are wrong or answer options are incorrect. In a few cases in the past, the answer key announced by the officials has turned out to be incorrect,” said Rajendra Khadav, Director, Crack CLAT.
Besides this, coaching experts claimed that the CLAT 2017 question paper also carried a question in Mathematics section which was a restricted area for the paper, as per the official CLAT syllabus 2017. “The CLAT 2017 question paper had a question in Mathematics section related to ‘True Discount’. It’s a subject-matter of Class 12 and that also from Commerce and Accounts paper. The question seems to have come out of syllabus,” claims Rajneesh Singh, Do-Zen Director and renowned CLAT mentor.
CNLU Patna, heading the CLAT committee this year, mentions on its official website that the candidates for five-year integrated law programmes will be tested at Class 10 level for Mathematics (Numerical Ability) section. “Mathematics section will test candidate’s knowledge on elementary mathematics, i.e., maths taught up to 10th Class/standard,” reads the official CLAT 2017 syllabus brochure.

However, the Numerical Ability section had the following question which is alleged to be out of syllabus–
“I was ready for Class 10th standard questions but this question is not from the syllabus. I could not solve this question as I had no idea how to proceed. I think we should be getting a bonus mark for this,” said Jasmeet Kalra, a CLAT 2017 taker. The question carries one mark.
Several CLAT 2017 takers have raised their doubts on a number of questions and answer options through different social media platforms. “Answers to many of the questions in the official CLAT 2017 provisional answer key are dubious. The options don’t match with the answers. Moreover, there are several questions which are incomplete and no answer can be drawn from those questions. Such questions have wasted time of several test takers like me,” claimed Kushagra Goyal, a CLAT 2017 taker.

Careers360 spoke to Rajneesh Singh for his opinion on the discrepancies in CLAT paper. "I have found as many as 15 doubtful questions in the CLAT 2017 Paper," the CLAT mentor said.
CLAT 2017 dubious questions and answers: What next?
When Careers360 spoke to CLAT Convenor Dr A Lakshminath, he said that the CLAT committee is looking into the concerns raised by test takers and appropriate measures will be taken on this issue.
“We are reviewing such claims and looking into any discrepancies that may have crept into the question paper or answer key of CLAT 2017. We will soon be bringing clarity on this,” the CLAT Convenor affirmed.
Further, the CLAT committee has offered a three-day window, May 17 to May 19, 2017, to all the test takers for filing their objections against the discrepant question or answer options. Upon receiving the representations from CLAT 2017 takers, the CLAT committee will review the answer key.
After this process, the committee will publish an amended answer key on May 25, which will also be the official final answer key of CLAT 2017. The CNLU Patna will announce CLAT Result on May 29, 2017 along with the announcement of CLAT merit list 2017.
