Candidates must provide their NLU preferences at the time of counselling after the CLAT PG result has been announced. This allows the candidates to fill in those NLUs in which they have the most favorable chance of admission as per their performance in the exam. Candidates can provide their NLU preferences through their login. Candidates will be able to gain admission in only those NLUs which have been included in their NLU preference list. At present, 21 NLUs offer admission into LLM programme through CLAT PG. While RPNLU Prayagraj and DBRNLU Sonepat do not offer LLM programme, CNLU Patna conducts its LLM admissions separately.
Once candidates have been allotted a seat, they may exercise freeze, float or exit option. The details of each option is given below:
Freeze: If a candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, they can choose “freeze” option to confirm their seat. The candidates must also pay the confirmation fee of Rs 20000. The confirmation fee will be adjusted against the university fee to be paid at the time of admission. A candidate who has been allotted a seat at NLU which was the candidate’s first preference has to choose the freeze option or else they have to exit the counselling process.
Float: A candidate who is not satisfied with the allotted seat or a candidate who did not get the top preference seat can choose the “Float” option. Such candidates will be considered for seat allotment in the subsequent rounds of CLAT PG counselling 2025. The candidates must also pay a confirmation fee of Rs 20000. The confirmation fee will be adjusted against the university fee.
Exit: A candidate can also choose to exit the process if they wish to do so. In such a case, the counselling registration fee will be refunded to the candidate in full. If a candidate chooses to exit the counselling process after exercising the freeze or float option, then Rs 5000 will be deducted and the remaining amount will be refunded.
The Consortium of NLUs has published the CLAT LLM 2025 cut-off for the second round of counselling on June 24, 2025. The CLAT PG 2025 cut off will be available through the merit list published for each round of CLAT PG counselling. Only those candidates who clear the CLAT PG 2025 cut-off for CLAT PG 2025 for that particular round will be allowed to participate in the admission process. The CLAT LLM cut-off is the rank of the last candidate admitted in a particular NLU. The authorities published the first CLAT PG 2025 cut-off on June 17, 2025. Securing a rank of approximately 4,000 in the CLAT PG 2025 examination may limit your chances of admission into the top National Law Universities (NLUs) for the LLM program. Historically, higher-ranked NLUs have had more stringent cut-off ranks, often requiring candidates to secure ranks well within the top 1,000 to 2,000.For instance, a CLAT PG score of 71+ marks typically corresponds to a rank of 100 or higher, while 35+ marks correspond to a rank of 4,000 or higher.
However, admission possibilities can vary based on several factors, including category reservations, domicile quotas, and the specific admission policies of each NLU. Some NLUs may have higher cut-off ranks for certain reserved categories or may offer seats to candidates with ranks around 4,000, especially in categories like OBC or EWS.
To enhance your chances of admission:
Review Category-Specific Cut-offs : Examine the previous years' cut-off ranks for your specific category and preferred NLUs to identify institutions where your rank may be competitive.
Consider Lower-Tier NLUs : Explore NLUs that have historically admitted candidates with ranks around 4,000, as they may offer viable opportunities for admission.
Stay Updated with Counseling Rounds : Participate actively in all counseling rounds, as seat availability and cut-off ranks can fluctuate, potentially opening opportunities in subsequent rounds.
Explore Alternative Institutions : In addition to NLUs, consider other reputable law schools and universities that accept CLAT PG scores and may have more accommodating admission criteria.
For personalized guidance, consider reaching out to academic advisors or utilizing official CLAT counseling resources to make informed decisions regarding your LLM admissions journey.
