There are approximately 20 LLM colleges in Tamil Nadu, including Tamil Nadu National Law University, which is among the top law universities in India. Candidates can pursue a Master in Law after completing their graduation. LLM is beneficial for law students as it helps in widening the research skill set and legal knowledge. LLM is generally a 2-year degree program, however, there are several LLM colleges in Tamil Nadu like Sai University in Chennai and SRM School of Law, that offer a 1-year LLM degree.
Candidates who wish to get admitted to LLM colleges must have a 3-year or 5-year LLB degree from a recognized university.
Generally, the minimum qualifying marks are 55% for the general category and 50% for the reserved categories.
Admission to top LLM colleges in Tamil Nadu is either merit-based or through an entrance test. The entrance tests required for admission in Tamil Nadu are mentioned below:
CLAT: The Consortium of NLUs conducts CLAT once a year in offline mode. The Common Law Admission Test is among the most popular law entrance tests in India. There are 26 national law universities and approximately 113 participating colleges that accept law scores for admission.
CUET: The Common University Entrance Test is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to various Central Universities and other participating colleges. Candidates have to appear in the CUET PG exam to get admission to LLM colleges in Tamil Nadu. The Central University of Tamil Nadu is the only university in the state that accepts CUET scores.
AILET: The National Law University Delhi conducts the All India Law Entrance Test once a year for law admissions. It is a national-level examination conducted in offline mode. In Tamil Nadu, VIT Law School accepts the AILET PG score for admission to LLM courses.
