Pallavi Sinha, IBM

Pallavi is a 22-year-old graduate in History from Hans Raj College, Delhi University. She joined IBM on February 22 as a Customer Support Executive for AT&T (USA).

She says, “I got to know about the company, work culture, job profile, leaves, rights, duties etc. during the onboarding and induction period. My office is in Noida and it takes almost an hour to commute from my place to work. Currently, I am working the day shift but every three months we have a rotation.”

Talking about her work life she adds, “I got this opportunity through a consultancy. It is a good experience to be working with such a big company. They provide pick up and drop facilities plus there is a huge canteen with many different outlets in our office campus.”

“We have a very well-designed office space and most of my coworkers are pretty good seniors to me. We get one hour off during our office hours. I have to scan my ID card whenever I am leaving the workstation. It’s not all work and no play. Every once or twice a month we have games/activities.”

About the challenges Pallavi faces, she pointed out, “Most of the things are pretty well-organised but it can be a challenge with rotational shifts.” Sometimes, people do find it physically draining to stay awake during the night shift if their body is not used to it. “Initially it was challenging when it came to meeting deadlines. No one entertains any kind of excuses if you fail to meet your deadlines,” she says.

“I have become better when it comes to handling workload. I am enjoying working in an MNC environment. I have made good friends and I am able to learn here,” Pallavi concludes.

Ankit Sharma, Accenture

Ankit is a 24-year-old graduate of MCA (Masters of Computer Applications) from Christ University Bangalore.

“I got placed from my college itself. I joined as an assistant test engineer with Accenture. It was a wonderful opportunity for me. I like the work environment in my company. My colleagues are a bunch of talented people who are good to work with.”

About his work life, Ankit mentions, “I like my work. It offers me the opportunity to be independent and continue learning. Our office space is one of the best. There is a gym and indoor playing area which we could access during our break or after office hours. Just one important thing not to miss is informing the manager about the delayed log-ins otherwise we lose half of our days' attendance.”

Talking about challenges, he says, “One of the biggest challenges is that my office is 18 km away from my office. It takes a lot of time to travel. I have to be punctual with my cab timing otherwise I have to manage on my own to reach the office on time. Initially, I found my manager to be very strict, but over a period of time, I have eased into the job role with practice.”

While summing up his experience, he said “Some of my workmates have become my close friends. I love my work very much as I have learnt how to deal with a particular type of problem and also learnt what not to do.”
