The Indian Army has released the official notification for the Indian Army JAG Entry Scheme 125th course, April 2027, on the official website - joinindianarmy.nic.in. The JAG 125th course application opened on July 17, 2026, at 3:00 PM and closes on August 17, 2026 at 3:00 PM. Candidates who have an LLB degree and a valid score in CLAT PG 2026 are eligible to apply. The shortlisting for SSB based on CLAT PG score will be conducted in the second week of September 2026. The combined male and female JAG vacancies are 10. The Indian Army conducts recruitment for Judge Advocate General (JAG) every year.

The position of Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the Indian Army is held by a Major General who is the legal and judicial chief of the army. The Judge Advocate General is assisted by a separate JAG branch which consists of legally qualified army officers. The recruitment is done for a period of 14 years, which can be extended.
Candidates need to fulfil the Judge Advocate General eligibility criteria before filling out the application form. The eligibility criteria have four components:
The aspiring candidate should be a graduate with a law degree, either 3 years or 5 years, with a minimum 55% aggregate marks. In addition, the CLAT PG score of the preceding year is mandatory for all candidates (including LLM-qualified and LLM-appearing candidates) who apply for courses starting in a particular year. Candidates must also be registered with the Bar Council of State or Bar Council of India.
To apply for the Indian Army Recruitment of JAG in the Short Service Commission, the aspirants should be between 21 years and a maximum of 27 years as of January 1, 2027. Candidates must be born not earlier than January 2, 2000 and not later than January 1, 2006.
As per the official notification, the candidate must be from:
A citizen of India
A citizen of Nepal
A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia, and Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A certificate of eligibility will, however, not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
The candidate should qualify for the CLAT PG 2026 exam to get through the recruitment process in 2026. The Consortium of NLUs conducts the CLAT examination for admission to National Law Universities and various other recruitments. CLAT 2026 scores are the only acceptable scores for admission.

All unmarried male and female graduates can apply for JAG positions in the Indian Army. The number of JAG vacancies as released in the Indian Army JAG 125 Entry Scheme Notification PDF is 10. These are combined vacancies for men and women.
The Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) will shortlist the candidates based on CLAT scores. All candidates applying for SSC (JAG) entry (men & women) need to register and appear for the CLAT (PG) exam of the preceding year. Only shortlisted eligible candidates will undergo SSB training at selection centres, Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Jalandhar (Punjab). A call-up letter for an SSB interview will be issued by the respective selection centre on the candidate’s registered email ID and SMS only.
Selected candidates will be detailed for Pre-Commission training at OTA, Chennai, according to their position in the final order of merit and the number of available vacancies. The duration of training is 49 weeks at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.
The salary for JAG entry April 2027 will vary during the training period and upon commission of the officer. During training, the officer will receive a stipend of Rs 56,100 per month. The JAG recruitment salary upon commissioning will be Rs 17-18 lakhs per annum, excluding the free medical cover & travel to the home town once a year.
