The eligibility criteria for the best government law colleges in India pertains to the minimum educational qualification required, minimum qualifying marks and age limit. Generally there is no age limit for law programmes, but candidates must check with individual colleges. The eligibility criteria is given in the table below.

Candidates must appear for various law entrance exams to gain admission into the best government law colleges in India. The exams include CLAT, AILET, CUET Law, and other state level entrance exams such as TS LAWCET, AP LAWCET and MH CET Law. Some government law colleges in India also offer law admissions without entrance exams on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam.
