Symbiosis International (Deemed) University will not conduct the SLAT Writing Ability Test ( SLAT WAT) this year. Unlike previous years, SLAT WAT has been removed from the the SLAT 2024 selection process. The admission process of SLAT will have only online PI conducted for candidates shortlisted in SLAT 2024. Earlier, the SLAT WAT questions tested the candidate’s ability to write and provide logical arguments and thoughts on a topic. Candidates shortlisted after the Symbiosis Law Admission Test appeared for the SLAT Writing Ability Test along with the SAPersonal Interview (PI). The SLAT WAT was held in online mode.
The Symbiosis International (Deemed) University notifies the WAT/PI dates for the SLAT selection process on its official website - set-test.org after declaration of SLAT result. The university conducts SLAT in two phases. It conducted SLAT 2024 on May 5 and May 11. The SLAT cut off 2024 is likely to be around 45-50 marks as per the SLAT exam analysis done over the years.
The selection process of SLAT 2024 now consists of ony two components, the exam, followed by SLAT PI. While the exam is scaled to 70 marks in the selection process, the SLAT PI is for 30 marks. The final selection of the candidate would be made on the basis of composite scores obtained in all the components of the SLAT 2024 selection process. Earlier, in the SLAT selection process, the marks in SLAT carried 50% weightage, WAT carries 20% weight,and PI carried 30% weight.

The SLAT WAT is designed to test the candidate’s writing ability and the ability to argue and reason logically. The syllabus of SLAT Writing Ability Test consists of writing essays on the given topics within the given time frame. Usually, candidates are given two topics, and they have to choose one essay out of the two options.

As mentioned above, SLAT WAT is descriptive which tests the candidate's writing skills and ability to form logical arguments. A candidate’s preparation for SLAT WAT must focus on developing these skills.
Divide the essay into appropriate paragraphs to improve readability and presentation.
4-5 paragraphs would be enough for SLAT WAT.
Understand the given topic properly first before beginning to write.
Plan out and divide the essay into appropriate parts such as intro, body and conclusion.
Ensure there is coherence and continuity in the writing
Refrain from using fancy words just for the sake of using them. Prioritise simplicity and readability.
Provide informative content on the subject asked in the question. Displaying subject expertise on the essay topic will fetch more marks.
Awareness about current affairs: Aspiring candidates must develop good awareness about the latest happenings in various fields such as politics, economy, sports and others. This will ensure there is no dearth of content when writing the essay.
Develop a reading habit: A regular reading habit not only improves knowledge but will also help in improving reading and comprehension skills, which are very important in law entrance exams.
Make Notes: If one comes across some important points during the course of one’s reading, they should note down the points. In this way, one can always go back to them to reinforce one’s grasp and understanding on a particular subject.
Work on improving vocabulary and Grammar: A good command over English with a wide vocabulary will enable the candidate to put down his or her thoughts on paper in a better way. One can refer to books on English grammar, flash cards and subscribe to a daily newspaper to improve one’s language skills.
Practise Writing/Typing: Candidates must practise for SLAT WAT by writing on a piece of paper or typing on a computer screen on any given topic. Repeated writing practice will improve writing/typing speed and condition the mind for SLAT WAT.
