SLAT PI Round Preparation Tips

The Personal Interview (PI) round of SLAT is a crucial stage in the admission process, as it evaluates not only your knowledge but also your personality, presence of mind, and ability to communicate effectively. Here are some detailed preparation tips to help you ace the SLAT PI:

  1. Anticipate Possible Questions

    • Prepare for commonly asked PI questions such as “Tell us about yourself,” “Why law as a career?”, “Why Symbiosis Law School?”, or “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
    • Practice structured responses that highlight your motivation, achievements, and future aspirations. This reduces the chance of being caught off guard.
  2. Know Your CV/Resume Thoroughly

    • Interviewers often pick questions from the details you mention in your CV, such as academic achievements, extracurriculars, hobbies, or internships.
    • Be prepared to justify and elaborate on each point with specific examples rather than giving vague answers.
  3. Stay Updated with Current Affairs

    • Read newspapers, reliable online news portals, and monthly current affairs compilations.
    • Pay special attention to legal developments, constitutional issues, landmark judgments, and major government policies.
    • This ensures you can confidently handle any question related to recent events.
  4. Analyse Issues from a Legal Perspective

    • Go beyond just reading the news—try to assess topics from a legal and constitutional standpoint.
    • For example, if there’s a discussion on data privacy, link it to the Right to Privacy under Article 21.
    • This demonstrates your ability to think like a law student and connect real-world events with legal principles.
  5. Work on Communication Skills

    • Speak clearly, fluently, and with confidence. Practice mock interviews with peers or mentors.
    • Avoid using fillers like “um” or “you know.” Instead, pause and structure your thoughts before answering.
    • Good body language—eye contact, posture, and polite gestures—adds to your overall impression.
  6. Practise Active Listening

    • Many candidates lose marks by misinterpreting the question.
    • Listen carefully to the interviewer, process the question, and then respond.
    • If you don’t understand the question, it’s better to politely ask for clarification rather than guessing.
  7. Be Authentic and Genuine

    • Do not try to fake knowledge or exaggerate achievements, as interviewers can easily spot insincerity.
    • Stay calm, be respectful, and let your natural personality come through.
    • Confidence with humility always leaves a positive impact.

By following these tips, you can approach the SLAT PI round with preparation, confidence, and clarity. Remember, the panel is not only assessing what you know but also how you present yourself as a future law student.
