700+ Campus placements at top national and global law firms, corporates, and judiciaries
ApplyNational Law Universities are not the only law colleges that one can get into through the Common Law Admission Test. There are around 60+ private colleges that accept CLAT scores. Close to 52000 candidates are believed to have appeared for CLAT 2024. However, NLUs only offer close to 4600 seats for UG and PG programmes. Due to high competition in NLUs, students can also consider private law colleges accepting CLAT scores to pursue legal education. The Common Law Admission Test was conducted on December 3, 2023.
CLAT is important for private law colleges as several affiliated colleges are tying up with the Consortium of NLUs. Through this arrangement, the NLUs share the CLAT scores of appearing candidates with the participating colleges. The private law colleges then conduct their admission process on the basis of these scores.
Through the Common Law Admission Test, candidates would gain admission into 5-year LLB and LLM programmes of participating NLUs.
5-year LLB: To enrol in a 5-year LLB programme, candidates must have cleared 10+2. Students appearing for their class 12 exams can also apply. The Consortium of NLUs prescribes a minimum passing marks of 45% for general/OBC category and 40% for SC/ST category.
LLM: The minimum educational qualification required to enrol in an LLM programme is an LLB degree of 3 years or 5 years. The minimum passing marks prescribed for LLM is 50% for general/OBC category and 45% for SC/ST category.
