Careers360 brings you an interview with Gautam, a law student. He shares his personal experience with the MRIIRS Faridabad campus, its facilities, challenges faced, and daily routine. Refer to the interview below to gain a much better understanding.

Careers360: Tell us about yourself and what made you choose the college as your alma mater?

Gautam: I am a law student with a strong interest in understanding how law functions in society and how it can be used as a tool for justice and change. I chose this college as my alma mater after hearing positive feedback from friends about the excellent opportunities it offers in the field of law. The exposure to academic activities, student committees, and practical learning platforms here really stood out to me. Over time, I have realised that this decision has helped me grow both academically and personally.

Careers360: How would you describe the overall academic atmosphere on campus?

Gautam: The overall academic atmosphere on campus is very positive and motivating. The college timings are convenient, which helps students manage their studies effectively without feeling overwhelmed. The infrastructure is efficient and well-maintained, creating a comfortable environment for learning. Additionally, regular tests and assessments play an important role in keeping students academically engaged and help in maintaining a healthy sense of competition, which encourages continuous improvement.

Careers360: Do you find the library, labs, and digital resources sufficient for your academic needs?

Gautam: Yes, I find the library and digital resources sufficient for my academic needs. There are multiple libraries on campus, and as a law student, the law library is the one I use the most. It is accessible in both offline and online modes, which makes research and studying very convenient. The atmosphere of the library itself is calm and disciplined, which motivates students to focus and study effectively. Moreover, every student is provided with specific digital credentials, allowing easy access to library resources anytime, which greatly supports academic learning.

Careers360: How approachable and supportive are the faculty members outside the classroom?

Gautam: The law faculty members are extremely approachable and supportive, even outside the classroom. They are always open to addressing doubts and guiding students whenever needed. One of the unique aspects is the mentorship system, where a subject teacher acts as a mentor and closely monitors our academic performance and overall progress. Additionally, the faculty often use real-life examples and societal contexts while teaching, which helps us understand the practical application of law beyond textbooks.

Careers360: Are there opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research, or innovation?

Gautam: Yes, there are ample opportunities for interdisciplinary learning on campus. The college encourages students to participate in common projects that involve collaboration with students from different departments. These interdisciplinary projects help us understand concepts more efficiently by allowing us to learn from diverse perspectives. They also play a significant role in developing teamwork, communication skills, and a collaborative spirit, which are essential for both academic and professional growth.

Careers360: What student clubs, committees, or organisations are most active and engaging?

Gautam: There are several student-driven clubs and committees on campus that are very active and engaging. At the university level, the Department of Student Welfare plays an important role in organizing and managing various events and activities. Specifically for law students, there are dedicated clubs focused on practical learning and skill development, such as the Moot Court Society and the Youth Parliament Society. These platforms provide hands-on exposure, help students understand the practical aspects of law, and encourage active participation, leadership, and confidence-building among students.

Careers360: Are events like cultural fests, sports meets, and social activities held regularly at MR?

Gautam: Yes, cultural fests, sports meets, and social activities are held regularly at the university. Cultural programs are organised on special occasions such as Republic Day, Vasant Panchami, and Lohri, creating a vibrant and inclusive campus atmosphere. Sports meets are also conducted frequently, with participation from students of different institutions, which promotes healthy competition and sportsmanship. Additionally, annual fests are organised where professional singers and performers are invited, making the experience enjoyable and memorable.

As for my personal involvement, I have actively participated in these events. I serve as a student leader in the Department of Student Welfare and as the President of the Youth Parliament Committee in the School of Law. In these roles, I have not only participated but also organised various events. These experiences have provided immense practical knowledge, enhanced my leadership skills, and helped me grow beyond academics.

Careers360: Do you have a favourite spot on campus?

Gautam: My favourite spot on campus is the pocket café, Chai Garam. It’s a place where my friends and I visit almost every day. Most of our daily discussions—whether academic or personal—happen there, making it a space full of conversations and memories. During exam time, the café has also witnessed our late discussions, stress, and struggles, which makes it even more special. It’s not just a café, but a place that reflects the true spirit of student life on campus.

Careers360: How effective is the career services/placement cell?

Gautam: The career services and placement support for the School of Law are quite effective. There is a separate Internship and Placement Cell dedicated to law students, which helps in providing internships in NGOs and law firms in accordance with the guidelines of the Bar Council of India (BCI). This structured support system ensures that students gain practical exposure alongside academics. The opportunities provided are diverse, and the guidance offered by the cell makes different career paths in the legal field clear and accessible for students.

Careers360: What challenges do you face in balancing academics with extracurricular activities?

Gautam: In my experience, balancing academics with extracurricular activities has not been very challenging because I follow a structured approach. I make it a point to complete all event-related and extracurricular responsibilities on campus itself. This allows me to dedicate my time at home purely to self-study and academic preparation. By clearly separating my academic and extracurricular time, I am able to maintain a healthy balance without compromising on either.

Careers360: Are there any suggestions for improvement?

Gautam: In my opinion, most aspects of campus life are already functioning very well. However, one small improvement could be to provide counselling or mentorship support for students who hesitate to participate in academic or co-curricular activities, even after encouragement from faculty members. Such guidance could help them gain confidence, become more involved, and improve both academically and personally, contributing to a more inclusive and active campus environment.

Careers360: One memory you will cherish after graduation?

Gautam: One memory that I will cherish the most after graduating is my personal journey of growth at this college. When I first joined, I was quite introverted and hesitant to step forward. However, the campus environment and, especially, the constant support and encouragement from the faculty gave me opportunities to explore my potential. Over time, I grew in confidence and took on leadership roles, becoming a student leader in the Department of Student Welfare, President of three different clubs in the School of Law, and recently, a Student Ambassador. This transformation—from an introvert to a confident leader—along with the people who supported me throughout this journey, will always remain the most meaningful part of my college life.

Careers360: Would you recommend this campus to future students?

Gautam: Yes, I would definitely recommend this campus to future students. Based on my personal experience, the college provides a supportive academic environment, approachable faculty, and ample opportunities for overall growth. The exposure to practical learning, student-led committees, and leadership roles has helped me transform both academically and personally. When I joined, I was an introverted student, but the opportunities and guidance I received here enabled me to grow into leadership roles across multiple platforms. The campus not only focuses on education but also on shaping confident, responsible individuals, which makes it an excellent choice for students looking for holistic development.
