Law is a very important thing to run a country. Without law, a country does not function properly and the rate of crimes, misdeeds, malfunctions, etc., will increase. Law means some rules, regulations, different kinds of acts etc., according to which a country needs to function and any person going against those laws will be charged penalties.  There are many types of laws such as criminal law, corporate law, civil law, common law, statutory law, family law etc. India has a whole constitution which has all the acts of India written in it. As of 2017, the exact number of laws are 1248 but excluding the central and state laws. However, not anybody can know all the laws and acts of a country and thus, there are professionals such as Lawyers, legal advisors, notaries, advocates etc., who study all the law and acts so that they can help other people for law advises, legal advice etc.

In India, there are many colleges which teach Law. There are more than 500 institutes in India which offer law courses. In 2020, more than 75,000 students gave the Law course’s national entrance exam CLAT. LLB is the prominent course for Law aspirants. It is an undergraduate course and can be pursued after the completion of 10+2.  Average fees for LLB courses can be around 50K to 5 Lakhs per annum.

LLB courses are also available via distance learning. Distance learning means that a student can attain a degree via online classes from a college situated in a different city. There are very few colleges in India which offer this distance learning course. As mentioned earlier, India has over 500 institutes providing Law courses. There are many cities which have good law colleges, universities, or institutes.  One such city is Lucknow. Lucknow has 5 to 6 good colleges which offer law courses.

We have listed down some common eligibility criteria demanded by every LLB College.

Below we have mentioned all the term and conditions required for applying to a LLB course: -

  2. It is not mandatory to take any stream for Law courses, however, some colleges do prefer candidates with art/humanities streams.

LLB Colleges in Lucknow: Admission process for LLB

Admission process means procedure or step for getting a seat or admission into a particular college. Every college has their own admission process. Below we have mentioned common admission process for LLB: -

  • The student needs to complete all the eligibility criteria, only after which they will be able to apply for the college.

  • In LLB, there are 2 ways of admission process which are opted by colleges. The most opted process is the Entrance exam process. And very few colleges give admission on merit-based processes.

  • Entrance exam means a test which can be conducted on national level, state level or institution level. On the National level, the most popular entrance exam which is expected by almost every law college is CLAT. Since we are seeing about the LLB colleges in Lucknow, there is no such state level examination in Uttar Pradesh for LLB or Law course. Once the students appear in the entrance exam, a few days later results are announced, and law colleges also declare their cutoff. Cutoff means a benchmark of certain percentile or marks is set by colleges and students who score equal to or more than that benchmark in the entrance exam get a seat in that college. Every college has their own cutoffs and students will get admission only in that college of which they have scored equal to more than the cutoff set by the college.

  • Next process is Merit basis. Merit basis is opted by very few colleges in India. In this process, admission is given based on percentage acquired in 10+2 board examinations. Colleges declare their cutoff during the admission period and students who have acquired more than that cutoff in their 10+2 examination or equal to it will get a seat in that college.

  • Above mentioned were two different processes, and law colleges may opt any one of them.

  • After this process, some colleges may also take personal interview rounds and students who pass both the entrance exam/ merit basis round plus the personal interview round, will get an admission to that college.
