Top Law Colleges in India Accepting CLAT: Eligibility Criteria

The general eligibility criteria for admission to top Law Colleges in India that accept the CLAT score are as follows:

  • Integrated LLB: Pass in the higher secondary course from a recognized board preferably with 45% or above marks for open category and at least 40% or more for the reserved category.

  • LLM : The candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in law from an accredited university. As for the minimum qualifying marks, they are 55% for general category students and 50% for candidates from reserved categories, thus showing the stringent standards of these institutions.

Top Government Law Colleges Accepting CLAT Other than NLUs

Apart from the NLUs, many other premier law institutes also consider CLAT score for its admission processes. The most prominent amongst them are Faculty of Law, Delhi University and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak. The Delhi University offers courses both in BA LLB and BBA LLB, whereas IIM Rohtak provides a specialisation BBA LLB course. Admission Process for Top Law Colleges in India Accepting CLAT

  • The candidates must apply for the Common Law Admission Test conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. The CLAT application form for the test is released by the conducting body in the month of July.

  • The CLAT is conducted once a year in December in offline mode. 

  • Once the results of the entrance test are declared, the consortium conducts the CLAT counselling for the shortlisted candidates. 

  • Candidates who appear in the counselling are considered for the seat allotment in the NLUs. 

  • For other participating law colleges, the candidates have to apply directly to the respective college. The college grants admission to the candidates based on their CLAT scores.

Top Law Colleges in India Accepting CLAT: 5-year integrated LLB and 3-year LLB

  • 5-year Integrated LLB: In this course, the LLB degree is integrated with an undergraduate degree such as BA or BBA or BSc for a period of five years. This is an excellent option for those students who have cleared their higher secondary education, i.e. 12th class, and who wish to pursue a legal career right from the beginning. The program equips students with a basic knowledge of law and benefits of integrated degrees.

  • 3 years LLB: The 3 year LLB course is for students who have completed their graduation in any discipline. Only legal education is provided under this course and over three years of intensive knowledge about law is imparted. It's preferred by most students, who want to go for law after completion of the undergraduate courses.
