AOR Full Form

The full form of AOR exam stands for Advocates-on-Record and refers to the person who has cleared the AOR exam conducted by the Supreme Court of India once a year. Clearing the exam is a matter of pride as one becomes eligible to represent clients in the apex court.

An Advocate on Record is an advocate entitled under Order IV of the Supreme Court Rules to plead on behalf of their clients in the Supreme Court. Only an Advocate on Record can argue a case in the Supreme Court and defend their clients.

AOR Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility for the AOR exam is prescribed by the Supreme Court of India:

• The candidate must have practised for four years as an advocate.

• The candidate has to inform the Supreme Court that he or she has started taking one year of continuous training with a senior advocate on record because he or she intends to become an Advocate-on-Record.

• The advocate should have already completed one year of continuous training or be completing it by the time the exam commences.

• A candidate who failed in all the papers in a previous attempt is not eligible to apply
• Candidates who have already appeared five times in the exam are not eligible to apply.

AOR Exam Application Form 2026

The Supreme Court of India will open the AOR June 2026 application window. Eligible candidates can apply for the exam. A copy of the AOR application form can be downloaded from the Supreme Court website. Candidates can also obtain a physical copy of the application form from the AOR exam cell.

The form must be filled out completely and submitted to the AOR Examination Cell, along with the required documents and fees. Candidates can also provisionally submit a scanned copy of the filled-out application form via email, subject to submission of the hard copy of the AOR 2026 application form later on. Documents Required for AOR Application Form 2026

• The application form must be duly signed by the candidate.
• A self-attested copy of the advocate's enrolment certificate must be attached to the application form
• The photograph must be pasted on the application form
• Certificate of Training from an Advocate-on-Record must be submitted along with the application form

AOR Admit Card 2026

The Supreme Court of India issues the AOR admit card 2026 around 10 days before the exam date. The admit card of AOR June 2026 is emailed to the registered candidates. The candidates must follow the instructions and download the AOR 2026 admit card. Candidates must take a printout of the AOR admit card and affix a recent colour passport-size photograph in the top right corner of the admit card before appearing for the exam. AOR Exam Pattern 2026

The Supreme Court conducts the advocate on record exam in offline mode across four days. There will be four papers, each containing 100 marks. Candidates need to attempt all the questions within three hours. The exam pattern of the AoR exam is mentioned in the table below.

Advocate on Record Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for the AOR exam includes various areas of law such as constitutional law, civil law, criminal law, and administrative law. The exam tests the knowledge of the candidates in these areas of law and their ability to apply the law to different factual situations. The exam also tests the drafting skills of the candidates, as they are required to draft pleadings and petitions.

How to prepare for the AOR exam?

• Before starting their preparation, candidates should refer to AOR exam pattern and syllabus, which will help them prepare in the right direction.

• Candidates should refer to the previous year's question paper to know about the important topics and revise them regularly.

• The Supreme Court practice and procedure paper is designed to test an Advocate's familiarity with the day-to-day procedure that forms the basis of any practice before the court.

• Candidates should go through the Advocates Act and the Bar Council of India Rules.

• Read the list of important case law provided by the Supreme Court and prepare a brief for each case for revision purposes.

AOR Result

The Supreme Court will announce the result of the AOR 2026 exam on its official website soon after the exam is concluded. The result contains the name and roll number of the candidates who have cleared the examination. According to the passing criteria of the AOR exam, candidates should secure 50% in each subject and a combined aggregate of 60% in all the subjects.
