The School of Law at Presidency University recently marked a milestone in legal education by hosting its inaugural International Moot Court Competition from 20 to 22 February 2026. Organised in a prestigious collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the three-day event transformed the campus into a vibrant hub for advocacy, bringing together some of the most well-known legal luminaries on one platform. The competition was officially set in motion by the Hon'ble Justice Mr Shivraj Patil, a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and former Chairperson of the NHRC. At Presidency University, in a moving address to the students, Justice Patil moved beyond the technicalities of law to emphasise the human element of the profession, reminding the future advocates that true success is built on the pillars of honesty, hard work and a spirit of humility.

The scale of the event was truly grand, featuring forty-four teams from premier institutions. The participants included international teams from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, alongside top Indian institutions such as the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru and National Law University, Jodhpur, among others. This was not merely a public speaking contest; it was designed as an exhaustive simulation of the high-stakes world of legal advocacy. Over the course of the event, students were pushed to their limits in research methodology, courtroom etiquette and the art of structured oral argument, effectively bridging the gap between classroom theory and the grit of real-world litigation.

To ensure the highest level of professional scrutiny, the university invited fifty-three distinguished industry experts to serve as judges. This panel, composed of senior advocates, law firm partners, and respected academics, provided the students with the kind of sharp, practical critique that only seasoned professionals can offer. When the final arguments were settled, Tamil Nadu National Law University emerged as the overall champion with MKPM RV Institute of Legal Studies and The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University securing the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
