    SRM School of Law, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) welcomed its new Batch of 2026 through an inspiring Induction Programme that brought together eminent legal luminaries, university leadership, faculty members, parents, and aspiring law students to mark the beginning of their legal journey.

    In his keynote address, Chairman National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) Justice V. Ramasubramanian urged students to approach the legal profession with integrity, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. Reflecting on his own journey as a first-generation lawyer, he encouraged students to believe in the transformative power of hard work and resilience.

    Justice Ramasubramanian shared an engaging story to explain why the world needs lawyers, explain how legal professionals apply logic, interpret the law, resolve complex human conflicts, and uphold justice. He reminded students that while legal knowledge can be taught, qualities such as ethical conduct, compassion, analytical thinking, and emotional intelligence define exceptional lawyers.

    Chairman, NHRC encouraged students to embrace every learning opportunity with sincerity and to recognise that legal education extends far beyond the classroom into every aspect of life and society.

    Justice V. Ramasubramanian launched the SRM School of Law’s Centre for Human Rights Studies and the Centre for International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law, creating new avenues for advanced research, policy dialogue, and international collaboration.

    Addressing the gathering, Additional Solicitor General of India, Mr. A.R.L. Sundaresan, spoke about the huge responsibility that accompanies the legal profession. He emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity, and professionalism, encouraging students to build careers founded on ethical values.

    Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Y.S.R. Murthy, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Law), SRMIST, congratulated the new students and their families for choosing SRM School of Law and reaffirmed the institution's vision of nurturing future judges, advocates, corporate leaders, policymakers, and legal scholars through a multidisciplinary, research-driven, and practice-oriented legal education.

    In his address, Partner, Khaitan & Co., Chennai Mr. Vivek Sriram encouraged students to approach legal education with curiosity, resilience, and an open mind. He emphasised the importance of exploring diverse career opportunities, making effective use of internships, strengthening communication and writing skills, and developing clarity of thought. He advised students not to fear failure, to identify their areas of interest with patience, and to cultivate professionalism, adaptability, and meaningful professional relationships.

    SRM School of Law welcomed nearly 350 new students in B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), B.Com.LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.B. (Hons.), and LL.M. programme with specialisation in Corporate Law, Cyber Law and Security, Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, International Trade Law and Intellectual Property Rights.
