CLAT Legal Reasoning 2027 Mock Test Questions

The CLAT 2027 Legal Reasoning questions are passage-based questions similar to those in the CLAT syllabus. Each question has four options: the correct answer and three incorrect options.

    Passage 1

The Constitution of India guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the laws to all persons under Article 14. This means that the State cannot treat individuals differently without a reasonable basis. However, equality does not always require identical treatment. The State may classify people into different groups if the classification is based on an intelligible differentia and has a rational connection with the objective of the law.

For example, a government may introduce special scholarships for students from economically weaker sections to improve their access to education. Such a measure does not necessarily violate the right to equality because its purpose is to address economic disadvantages. However, if the government provides scholarships only to students from a particular village without any reasonable justification or connection to the objective, the classification may be considered arbitrary.

The principle of equality therefore requires the State to ensure that any different treatment is reasonable, justified, and related to a legitimate objective.
