NLSIU launched its 3-year LLB (Hons) programme in 2022. Unlike the 5-year integrated BA LLB (which requires CLAT), admission to this postgraduate law course is conducted via the university’s own independent entrance test (NLSAT). The 2027-28 academic session is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2027.

The NLSAT LLB 2027 exam will be a 2.5-hour (150 minutes), offline, pen-and-paper test conducted at several centres across India. The question paper will have two parts, Part A and Part B, carrying 75 marks each. Candidates must attempt both parts, but Part B will be evaluated only for those who qualify through Part A.
Part A is the first stage of the NLSAT LLB 2027 exam. The key details are:
Total marks: 75 marks.
Question type: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates are provided with an OMR sheet to mark their answers.
Marking scheme: Candidates will get 1 mark for each correct answer. A penalty of 0.25 marks applies to every wrong and unanswered question.
Shortlisting criteria: Candidates must score more than zero marks in Part A to qualify for Part B evaluation. NLSIU will shortlist candidates in a 1:5 seat-to-candidate ratio. This means five candidates per available seat in each category will qualify for evaluation of Part B.
The key Part B exam pattern details are:
Total marks: 75 marks.
Question type: Subjective/conventional written answers.
Evaluation: Only candidates shortlisted through Part A will have their Part B answers evaluated.
The final NLSAT LLB 2027 merit list is based on the combined scores of Part A and Part B:
Percentile cut-off: General and EWS candidates must score above the 75th percentile in the combined score (Part A and Part B). For SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwD candidates, the requirement is above the 40th percentile.
Tie-breaker: If two or more candidates secure the same total marks, the candidate with the higher score in Part B will be ranked higher.
