QnA related to CLAT

Ask your question related to CLAT

Hello,

For your mentioned rank, the top elite law universities are constrained to be limited, especially when the chance is fairly divided among reserved category people.

But apart from CLAT rank, NRI admissions have some different processes.

Some NLUs handle counselling with required eligibility and quotas. The counselling registration window is open until December 27, 2025. You can apply to know through them. Because even missing application deadlines will lessen your eligibility.

NRI admissions regarding CLAT can be applied directly with the major required document proofs.

Cutoffs to 10,000 are being allotted after regular rounds for counselling, but the course fee for this will be 10-20 lakhs per annum only if the candidate is either of these: NRI, OCI, or PIO.

For further clarifications check the official portal

Consortium of  (https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2026/) NLUs.

Hope it helps with your query. Good luck.

Hello,

With an OBC category rank of 2796 and All India Rank (AIR) 15163 in CLAT 2026, your chances of admission into a National Law University (NLU) are moderate too low for the top NLUs, but you may still secure a seat in some of the newer or lower-ranked NLUs depending on the cutoffs and counselling rounds.

HELLO,

With your OBC rank of 2716 and AIR 14780 , your chances at NUALS Kochi are possible , potentially even in earlier rounds , as NUALS often closes around 10000 - 15000 for general and even higher for OBC , but you should definitely aim for it and consider other NLUs like NLUJA , MNLU Nagpur in the 15K - 20K AIR range for OBC.

As your AIR of 14780 falls within the range where lower tier NLUs like NUALS Kochi often admit candidates, in later rounds or through state reservation and your OBC rank is strong for this category.

  • NUALS Kochi
  • CNLU Patna
  • NUSRL Ranchi
  • DSNLU Visakhapatnam
  • NLU Sonepat
  • NLU Assam

Here in this link you can predict your college.

I hope it will clear your query!!

Hello

With a CLAT 2026 score, you can apply to several good private law colleges in South India apart from NLUs.
In Tamil Nadu, strong options include SASTRA University (Thanjavur) and Saveetha School of Law (Chennai).
In Karnataka, colleges like Christ University (Bangalore) and Alliance School of Law are well-reputed.
In Telangana, ICFAI Law School (Hyderabad) is a popular choice through CLAT scores. These colleges offer good academics, decent placements, and are among the best non-NLU law options in South India.

Hope it will help you

Hello,

Here are the Colleges Accepting CLAT (Law Admissions):

  • National Law School of India University (NLSIU)
  • NALSAR University of Law
  • National Law University (NLU Delhi)
  • West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS)
  • Private Universities (e.g., GGSIPU Delhi, TNDALU Chennai, ICFAI Hyderabad)

Unlike CLAT, which is used by 24 NLUs, AILET is conducted exclusively for admission to National Law University, Delhi (NLU D).

Hope it helps.

With an AIR around 7930 in CLAT and general women category, top NLUs may not be possible, but you still have chances in newer and lower-ranked NLUs, especially in later rounds or spot counselling. Based on previous trends, you can consider the following preference order:

  1. NLU Tripura (Agartala)

  2. NLU Manipur

  3. NLU Meghalaya (Shillong)

  4. NLU Sikkim

  5. HPNLU Shimla

  6. DSNLU Visakhapatnam (very limited chance, only if cut-offs drop)

Apart from NLUs, you should also apply to reputed private law colleges that accept CLAT scores, such as UPES Dehradun, Alliance University Bengaluru, Amity Law School, and NMIMS School of Law. Since you are from Lucknow, also explore state universities and private law colleges in Uttar Pradesh as backup options.

No, there is no penalty fee imposed by CLAT Consortium or NLUs for leaving an NLU to reappear for CLAT and join a better-ranked NLU later. However, there are a few practical and financial points you should clearly understand before taking this decision.

First, from the CLAT Consortium’s side, you are fully allowed to appear for CLAT again even if you are already studying in an NLU. Many students do this every year to improve their rank and move to a higher NLU. There is no restriction, disqualification, or penalty related to reattempting CLAT.

Second, regarding the NLU you are currently studying in:
If you leave the NLU after taking admission, the college will not charge any “penalty” as such, but they may deduct a portion of the fees you have already paid, depending on when you withdraw.
• If you withdraw before classes start or within the UGC refund timeline, you may get most of your tuition fee refunded (excluding registration or processing fees).
• If you withdraw after classes have started or after a few months, the NLU usually does not refund the tuition fee for that semester or year. Hostel and mess fees are also generally non-refundable once the session begins.

Third, documents and migration:
When you leave the NLU, you can request your original documents, transfer certificate, and migration certificate. NLUs are required to return documents; they cannot legally withhold them just because you are leaving.

Fourth, impact on future admissions:
Leaving an NLU does not negatively affect your chances in CLAT counselling the next year. The Consortium does not consider past admissions or withdrawals while allotting seats. Your allotment depends only on your new CLAT rank, category, domicile (if applicable), and preferences.

Finally, practical advice:
If you are confident you can significantly improve your CLAT score and target a much better NLU, reappearing makes sense. However, if the expected improvement is marginal, the financial loss of one year’s fees and the academic gap should be carefully considered.

In summary, there is no penalty fee or legal issue in leaving an NLU to write CLAT again. The only loss you may face is partial or full non-refund of fees already paid, depending on the timing of your withdrawal.

Hello,

With your AILET rank of 16,168 and CLAT rank of 49,000 , it is very unlikely to get into top NLUs or NLU Delhi, as their cutoffs are much better.

1. Lower-tier NLUs or later rounds:

  • NLU Odisha, Cuttack – sometimes seats are available for ranks around 50,000 in later rounds.

  • NUALS Kochi – closing ranks in previous years went up to around 56,000.

2. Private universities accepting CLAT/AILET scores:

  • Lovely Professional University (LPU)

  • Alliance University, Bangalore

  • Manipal University Jaipur

These private colleges usually offer admission based on CLAT/AILET score and sometimes a personal interview. Your ranks are suitable for these colleges.

You can also use our CLAT College Predictor Tool to predict which colleges you can get based on your score and rank.

Hope it helps !
