    Important Information: The AILET PG examination in 2027 will be held on December 13, 2026, and will run from 2 PM to 4 PM.

    AILET PG Exam Pattern 2027

    As the name suggests, there are two major sections in the AILET PG 2027 exam pattern: Section A and Section B.

    Section A – English and Legal Reasoning multiple-choice questions (MCQs)

    Part 1 – English Language

    Part 2 – Legal Reasoning

    50 multiple-choice questions carrying a total weightage of 75 marks will come in Section A.

    Section B- Section B comprises descriptive questions pertaining to various legal specialties. There shall be eight to ten descriptive questions related to different fields of law. But you have to answer just two of the descriptive questions in this section. A total of 75 marks from Section B evaluation are taken into account in the examination.

    But you should keep in mind that for Section A only, wrong answers are marked -0.25. The right answers in Section A will be awarded 1 mark each. In Section B, all your answers together should make up for 25 marks each.

    The distribution of topics you must prepare for the AILET PG examination:

    Section A: English and Legal Reasoning

    • English: Synonyms, Antonyms, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Subject-verb Agreement, Tenses, Spotting errors, Use of Right Word, Parts of Speech, Idioms and phrases, Figures of Speech, Parts of Speech, Punctuation, Sentence Rearrangement.

    • Legal Reasoning: Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence/ Legal Theory, Contract Law & Specific Relief Act, Family Law, Criminal Law, Environment Law, Tort & Consumer Protection Act, Public International Law, Administrative Law, IT Act & Tax Law, Copyright Act & Evidence Act, Indian Constitution & Penal Code, Indian Contract Act, Company Law, Property Law, Intellectual Property Law & IPR Law.

    Tips for Legal Reasoning: Practice reading principles and their application. Work on questions regarding facts and principles that include topics such as murder, counterfeiting currency, negligence, assault, constitution, agency, offer and acceptance, and necessity.

    Section B: Descriptive Questions

    • In order to be evaluated under Section B, it is essential that you pass in Section A.

    • There are 8-10 questions in this section, out of which you have to answer any 2.

    • The questions might cover legal reasoning or recent case laws and may even consist of analytical questions so as to test your conceptual knowledge.

    • You need to pay heed to the recent case law as it holds significance. Learn and relearn the entire recent case law.

    • Criminal Law (CrPC and IPC), according to the analysis of the previous year, carries more weight. Focus on the questions related to criminal law.

    • The next two important sources of law, according to the weightage, are legal precedents and constitutional law. Make yourself familiar with their concepts since questions based on them can be asked during the LLM analytical questions.

    • In your preparation, focus on covering the above-listed topics in depth, practising legal reasoning questions and keeping abreast with current case laws, specifically those in the field of Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence.
