Amity University-Noida Law Admissions 2026
Among top 100 Universities Globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026
Amid the ongoing concerns around the Common Admission Process (CAP), the Bar Council of India (BCI) has granted a one-time approval to Maharashtra law colleges for the academic year 2026-27. The conditional approval is available only to existing law colleges, with existing approved sanctions and intake, subject to valid university affiliation for the 2026-27 academic year.
The BCI further asked all such law colleges to submit the requisite documents and pay all applicable BCI fees and dues, including, wherever applicable, approval, inspection, continuation, regularisation, late and default fees by August 31. Further, this does not waive or regularise any past non-compliance, fee liability or earlier academic session. The BCI has also clarified that fresh law colleges, courses, or additional intakes will require separate consideration and specific approval.
The BCI’s fresh order comes at a crucial time when thousands of students in Maharashtra are facing uncertainty due to the pending approval of law colleges. The BCI had, in an earlier circular, directed all universities imparting legal education to conduct inspections in affiliated law colleges and ensure compliance with Legal Education Rules, 2008. The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), Maharashtra, subsequently directed numerous law colleges with expired approvals to secure approval before participating in the state common admission process.
As of August 11, the CET Cell, Maharashtra, has approved 163 colleges for 3-year LLB admissions. More colleges will be added in subsequent rounds of admission. The 5-year LLB admissions have 116 colleges as participants. The admission allotments for 3 and 5-year LLB courses will be announced on August 14 and August 17, 2026, respectively.
