Some of India’s top law colleges, other than NLUs, accept CLAT 2025 results for LLB admissions. Delhi University and Nirma University are the two prominent universities students prefer to go to if they fail to secure tier 1 or tier 2 NLUs through CLAT. This article discusses the admission cut-offs for Delhi University and Nirma University, along with some discussion about courses offered by these universities and career prospects. This should help the students develop an understanding of these colleges, and make better-informed career decisions.
But, before we move on to the main topic, here is an update on CLAT 2025 results — The CLAT results are likely to be revised in the Delhi High Court’s next hearing on March 03. The division bench in the court has already upheld an earlier judgment of a single judge directing the NLU Consortium to revise CLAT results. The March 03 hearing is crucial; it is likely to end the confusion around the NLUs admission process.
CLAT 2025 results will be accepted by over 60 law colleges across the country. Some of the most popular names include Delhi University, Nirma University, UPES Dehradun, IP University, and BITS Law School Mumbai.
While Nirma University’s Institute of Law previously offered BA LLB and BCom LLB courses, it has added BBA LLB as a new course this year. The applications for admission to Nirma University Law are open. Delhi University has a Faculty of Law which offers BA LLB and BBA LLB courses through CLAT. The university may open the application window for the law courses in April-May, 2025.
Choosing between Delhi University and Nirma University requires careful consideration. There are certain parameters the students should keep in mind while weighing these universities — Placements and internships, courses, location, budget, and CLAT 2025 cut-offs for these universities. We will talk about these one by one in the following section;
Delhi University's 5-year LLB is a very recently introduced course with no graduating batch yet. So, we are yet to see how the industry will react to these courses in 2028. However, DU 5-year LLB has immense potential to ensure students get internships and placements in law firms and corporates based in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram.
The university has a placement coordination committee managed by students. Internship and placement notices are currently shared with students studying the 3-year LLB programme. The best internship packages have a payout ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. The placement packages from law firms will be around 4 LPA - 6 LPA. The package declines to Rs. 10,000 - 25,000 per month (Rs. 1.2 LPA - 3 LPA) if students are hired as associates in the law chambers.
In comparison to DU, Nirma University LLB courses are much older. The university started offering law courses in 2007. It has a dedicated internship and placement cell. From the third semester, students are offered internships by law firms, corporations, and chambers in Allahabad High Court. By the end of the final year of LLb, most of the students are placed. As per the 2023-24 placement report, 97% of registered students were placed, with an average salary of Rs. 6.58 LPA. The highest package was Rs. 19.54 LPA.
Both Nirma University and Delhi University are offering BA LLB and BBA LLB. If the students are specific about BCom LLB, then Nirma University is the only option. However, the course should not be a major consideration since BA LLB which is common in both universities, is equally good for litigation and corporate law.
Delhi University has some locational advantages over Nirma University that go beyond those contributing to the legal profession. The university is situated in the National Capital, very close to the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. The law firms and corporates in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida make DU a more attractive option. DU is also one of the best public universities in India where students come from all corners of the country. The reputation and 3-year LLB alumni network are two more factors that add immense value to the university.
Nirma University based in Ahmedabad is at a distance of less than 10 km from Gujarat High Court. Additionally, over 80 companies and firms visit the campus for placements which means students have opportunities to work/intern across the country.
The course fee becomes an important factor when it comes to choosing a law school. Delhi University is a government-funded university, however, the 5-year LLB courses are being offered under a self-financing model, meaning that the students have to carry the burden of fees. Unlike a 3-year LLB, where course fees are around Rs. 6,000 per year, the DU 5-year LLB costs around 2.1 Lakh per year. The overall cost of studying a 5-year LLB at DU will be around Rs. 10-12 Lakh.
Compare this with Nirma University which is a private university. The fee is much higher than DU. It is almost twice what students at DU have to pay. The Nirma University 5-year LLB fee is around Rs. 3.97 Lakh per annum, with the overall cost going up to Rs. 20 Lakh. So, if budget is a consideration, Delhi University is a better choice, the university also offers fee waivers of up to 90% to financially weaker students.
Finally, it is also important to understand the CLAT 2025 cut-offs for Nirma University and Delhi University. Both Nirma University and DU do not release the cutoffs or merit lists. However, some estimates suggest that the DU 5-year LLB cut-off was closed at around All India CLAT Rank 1100 for the general category.
The Nirma University CLAT cut-offs go much higher in comparison to DU. Students falling between 4,000-5,000 CLAT rank should be able to secure admission to Nirma University. As it also depends on the number of applications the university receives, candidates who secure CLAT rank up to AIR 8,000 should also apply for admission to the university. If the number of applicants is less, the chances of cut-offs crossing 5,000 are good.
| Category | Delhi University | Nirma University |
| General | 1000-2000 | 4,000-5000 |
| SC and ST | Upto 10,000 | N/A |
| OBC | 4,000 | N/A |
The CLAT cut offs for Nirma University and Delhi University given above are approximate, suggesting that candidates falling in these rank ranges should consider applying to these universities as well.
Another important factor students should keep in mind is that DU offers caste reservation. So while general category cut-offs may remain around 1500 - 2,000, the EWS might go up to 4,000 and SC and ST seats may close at CLAT rank 10,000. Nirma University does not offer such reservations. 85% of seats are offered under the general category, and the remaining 15% of seats are offered to non-resident Indian students.

For CLAT 2025, the General Knowledge and Current Affairs section has around 28 to 32 questions. These questions come from recent news, events, and general topics like the Constitution, international issues, awards, and government schemes.
You should mainly focus on current events from the last 12 to 18 months. The exam gives short passages from newspapers or magazines, and you have to answer questions based on those passages.
The most important topics are national and international current affairs, major government policies, legal news, awards and honours, science and technology updates, sports events, important personalities, and environmental issues.
Some of the most expected topics for CLAT 2025 are global conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and Middle East updates, major elections in India and other countries, new laws, bills, and reforms in India, international meetings like G20 and COP climate conferences, important awards in 2024 and 2025, recent achievements in science and space technology, and new government schemes and court judgments.
To prepare, you should read current affairs daily, revise important news from April 2024 till now, and practice passage-based questions from mock tests. Static GK (like history, geography, or constitution) should also be studied but only the parts that are connected to current events.

Hello dear candidate,
Yes, you are right UGC rules do not allow two regular full time courses simultaneously.
But for CLAT or NLU admission they only check if your 12th certificate is valid and is from a recognized board, not if you did another course along with it.
The BCI also do not reject candidate for this reason.
Thank you.
Hello,
If you are from Delhi and appearing for CLAT, then you come under the General (All India) category, as CLAT reservation is based on the domicile of NLUs, and Delhi does not have a National Law University under CLAT (NLU Delhi conducts AILET separately). So, you can apply for CLAT through All India Quota, and if you don’t get a seat in NLUs. You can apply through CLAT, AILET, or private law colleges like Amity, Symbiosis, or IPU for admission.
Keep both CLAT and AILET options open to maximize your chances.
Hope you understand.
