The Consortium of NLUs has postponed the release of the CLAT UG 2026 third merit list following a petition filed in the Allahabad High Court. The petitioner argued that the final answer key failed to acknowledge that Question 9 (Booklet C) contained two correct options, 'B' and 'D', a claim the Expert Committee had previously validated. Consequently, the Court has directed a revision of the merit list, and a new counselling schedule will be announced pending the Consortium's legal appeal. The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) released the CLAT 2026 provisional answer key on, December 10, 2025 at 5 PM. Along with the answer key, it also opened the objection window. The CLAT 2026 objection portal closed at 5:00 PM on December 12, 2025. The CLAT 2026 objection fee has been reduced this year from Rs 1000 to Rs 500.
This year, a total of 92,344 candidates registered for the examination and saw an increase of 17% more applications. Students aiming for CLAT 2026 admission must target scores that match category-wise cut-offs for their preferred National Law Universities (NLUs). These cut-offs depend on exam difficulty, category of candidates, number of participants, and seat availability. For the general category, candidates need 90+ marks out of 120 to enter top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru or NALSAR Hyderabad.
