The Consortium of NLUs has postponed the CLAT 2026 third seat allotment list after Allahabad HC’s order directing it to revise the merit lists. The Allahabad HC ordered a revision of the CLAT 2026 merit list after a candidate filed a petition stating that his objections did not appear in the final answer key, even though the Expert Committee found them valid. The CLAT 2026 counselling was postponed due to Question no 9 of Booklet C. The revision of the CLAT 2026 merit list will lead to a shift in marks and ranks of a large number of candidates. In this article, we will discuss in detail what changes will be made the CLAT 2026 final answer key and scorecards after the Allahabad HC’s decision.
Question No. | Booklet Reference | Earlier Final Answer Key | Expert Committee View | HC-Mandated Change | Status After Judgment |
Question 9 | Booklet-C (Q.91 in Booklet-A) | Only Option A is treated as correct | Both B and D are correct | Award marks to candidates choosing either B or D | Modified |
Question 6 | Booklet-C | Option B | Option B | No change ordered | Unchanged |
Question 13 | Booklet-C | Option C | Option C | No change ordered | Unchanged |
The Allahabad HC maintained that the petitioner’s objection must be upheld with regard to question no 9 of Booklet C. The petitioner had objected that both options B and D should be the correct answer for Question no 9 of Booklet C. The expert committee had also found the petitioner’s objection valid. However, the oversight committee had rejected the objection without any reason. The court has now ordered that the objection should be taken as valid and necessary changes should be made in the CLAT 2026 merit list. The possible change in marks and answer key after the CLAT 2026 answer key revision has been given below:
Candidate’s Response to Q.9 (Booklet-C) | Marks Before Judgment | Marks After Judgment | Net Change |
Selected Option D | +1 | +1 | No change |
Selected Option B | −0.25 (treated as wrong earlier) | +1 | +1.25 marks |
Selected Any Other Option | −0.25 | −0.25 | No change |
Did Not Attempt | 0 | 0 | No change |
The Consortium of NLUs has notified that the CLAT 2026 counselling will be indefinitely deferred after the Allahabad HC’s order. The Consortium has filed a Special Appeal in front of a division bench in the Allahabad HC. The CLAT 2026 counselling process might be held until the court’s order on the Special Appeal. However, the Consortium is likely to publish the CLAT 2026 revised merit list anytime soon.
