The Maharashtra State CET Cell has revised the MH CET LLB CAP rules 2026 to address the issues arising from the exclusion of several law colleges and existing allotment rules. In a major change in the Common Admission Process (CAP), the CET Cell has discontinued the auto-freeze option for candidates participating in the initial two rounds of counselling. With several colleges missing from the initial two rounds, the current choice-filling and allotment rules would have penalised high percentile students who secured seats in the first round itself.
Under the revised CAP rules, students can exercise the betterment option to a higher preferred college or to a newly approved law college even after securing a first preference college in the first two rounds. This would allow them to explore opportunities in colleges that will be added later.
Exercising the betterment option would require such candidates to pay ₹1,000 as a seat acceptance fee. The freeze option, however, remains available for those who want to lock their seats.
This revision addresses a key concern raised by Careers360 in its report on GLC’s expired approval and subsequent exclusion from the initial MH CET Law 2026 CAP process: whether students targeting GLC Mumbai should be allowed to participate in counselling if their seats are auto-frozen in the initial rounds.
In another major relief to law aspirants in Maharashtra, the CET Cell has added GLC Mumbai to the list of approved colleges. The CAP choice filling deadline was also extended till August 09. Students can edit and revise the college preference list in this extended window.
In addition to this, CET Cell has informed that several law colleges are in the process of obtaining approval from the Bar Council of India (BCI) and affiliation from the respective universities. Such colleges will be included in the admission process as and when the requisite approvals and affiliations are granted.
As of August 08, several popular law colleges such as Dr Ambedkar College of Law, Mumbai, Siddharth College of Law, Mumbai, Oriental College of Law, Navi Mumbai, MKES College of Law, Mumbai and Dr Ambedkar College, Nagpur, are yet to be added to the admission process.
With revised CAP rules, students can continue participating in the MH CET law counselling and use the betterment option if these colleges are included later.
