Symbiosis Law School Pune is currently the 7th-ranked law college in India as per NIRF 2025 rankings. The college is known for its corporate placements, rigorous academic curriculum and vibrant mooting culture. Recently, it released its placement figures for 2024-25 through its NIRF 2026 submission. SLS Pune recorded 100% placements in the academic year 2024-25. However, its median salary for the 5-year UG course dropped from Rs 18 LPA to Rs 9.6 LPA in the same academic year. The figure is well below SLS Pune’s last 10 years’ average median salary, which is Rs 11.8 LPA. In its 3-year UG course too, SLS Pune saw a fall of more than 40% in its salary figures.
In its recent NIRF 2026 submission, SLS Pune reported a median pay package of Rs 9,60,000 per annum for its 2024-25 academic batch. The figure is almost half of the median CTC compared to two prior years. SLS Pune reported a median package of Rs 18 LPA for academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The placement percentage of SLS Pune in the academic year is still 100%. A positive in this year’s NIRF 2026 submission for SLS Pune is that the number of students placed has increased by 21.09%. The academic year 2023-24 saw the placement of 275 candidates, while a total of 333 students were placed in the 2024-25 placement cycle.

The drop in median salaries at SLS Pune is not just limited to its 5-year LLB courses. The 3-year LLB and LLM courses have also seen a drop of more than 40% in their recent placement cycle of 2024-25. SLS Pune reported a median salary of Rs 7 LPA in the year 2024-25 placement cycle. In the academic year 2023-24, the median salary for the same course was Rs 12 LPA. The LLM course at SLS Pune saw the biggest drop in the median salary in 2024-25. The median placement package for the 1-year LLM course came down to Rs 6 LPA from Rs 12 LPA, recording a sharp drop of 50%. This is the first time in the last 10 years that the placements of all three courses have plummeted together.

There can be several factors that could trigger a drop in the median salaries of any institution. One important thing to note here is that the academic year 2024-25 saw the record-largest batch size for SLS Pune. A total of 359 students completed their graduation in the academic year 2024-25. This is the highest number of students ever to graduate from SLS Pune’s 5-year LLB course in a single academic year. A larger batch size makes the placements more sensitive to market conditions. A large number of students competing for tier 1 law firms definitely hits the median salary packages.
Program | Graduated | Placed | Higher Studies | Placement %* | Median Salary |
UG 5-Year LLB | 359 | 333 | 26 | 100% | ₹9,60,000 |
UG 3-Year LLB | 71 | 69 | 1 | 98.6% | ₹7,00,000 |
PG 1-Year (LLM) | 85 | 85 | 0 | 100% | ₹6,00,000 |
It is a notable fact that in the year 2023-23, SLS Pune saw a record-high median salary of Rs 18 LPA. This was a direct result of the post-COVID boom that led to an increase in demand for lawyers in law firms as well as corporates. The post-pandemic recovery resulted in higher median salary packages. However, since the market has now settled down, law firms are now doing cautious hiring, leading to fewer higher-paying entry-level offers.
Other possible reasons for the dip in SLS Pune median salary can be a shift in recruiter mix, fewer offers from tier-1 law firms that offer the highest salaries, slowdown in fresh campus hirings, dilution due to a rising number of graduates, etc.
If the dip makes current SLS students or future aspirants think they should be “concerned”, a clear answer to this question would be “NO”. SLS Pune has seen similar median salaries in the past and has often bounced back in subsequent years. SLS Pune's placement percentage remains remarkable, which is a good assurance that the institute manages to place all students despite continuously increasing batch sizes.
Also, the highest packages are still very lucrative, showing that the market still has a lot to offer to students graduating from SLS. For example, in the year 2024-25, the highest package offered at SLS Pune was Rs 52 LPA. Furthermore, the domestic highest package in the same year was Rs 22 LPA. Such dips are common in legal placements and do not indicate a permanent decline in the reputation of the institution. SLS Pune continues to be one of the top law schools in India with good placements and strong repute.
