Among top 100 Universities Globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026
With just six months left for CLAT 2027, the Consortium of NLUs is expected to publish the CLAT 2027 new pattern soon. The CLAT syllabus and pattern are going to see a major overhaul this year. The consortium had constituted a Committee of Independent Academic Experts to suggest medium and long-term reforms to the UG and PG Common Law Admission Test. The expert committee is chaired by Justice Indu Malhotra and co-chaired by Prof. Dev Saif Gangjee, Professor of Law, St. Hilda’s College, University of Oxford, and Prof. Tarunabh Khaitan, Professor of Public Law, LSE School of Law. The recommendations will determine the fate of CLAT 2027. Candidates can expect changes in the quality of questions, the structure of the exam and the syllabus under the pattern.
The members of the committee include Prof. Shyamkrishna Balganesh, Sol Goldman Professor of Law, Columbia Law School; Prof. Pritam Baruah, Professor and Dean, School of Law, BML Munjal University; and Prof. Surabhi Ranganathan, Professor of International Law, University of Cambridge. The Expert Committee will consider the points of reference given below regarding changes in the CLAT 2027 exam pattern:
Question quality;
The structure of the paper.
The syllabus for the Entrance Examination;
Review comparable entrance examinations like LSAT and LNAT in the US and UK respectively.

Given the concerns raised by the Supreme Court over the quality of CLAT, the consortium may look to enforce stricter moderation so that the answers and questions are less likely to be challenged.

The Consortium of NLUs will likely publish the CLAT 2027 notification in August 2026 along with the application and other details. The CLAT 2027 notification will comprise all the changes in the CLAT 2027 exam pattern, important deadlines, CLAT 2027 exam date and other crucial information. Candidates preparing for the upcoming exam will be eyeing the notification, as they are already preparing based on the old exam pattern. Reading skills, analytical and critical thinking are the core of the legal profession. The law entrance exams, such as LNAT and LSAT, are also designed around these skills. Considering this, students are advised to prepare themselves for these skills until the official changes are announced.
