Yes, Bare Acts are allowed in the AIBE 20 examination. The Bar Council of India (BCI) permits candidates to carry Bare Acts into the exam hall. Bare Acts are the exact texts of laws enacted by legislative bodies such as Parliament or State Legislatures. They contain the statutory provisions without any added commentary, notes, or interpretations.
The Bar Council of India has clarified that only Bare Acts in their original form are permitted during the AIBE exam. At the examination centre, invigilators thoroughly check all Bare Acts before allowing entry. They specifically look for any signs of handwritten notes, explanatory comments, or loose papers. If a Bare Act contains any additional material, it is considered non-compliant. In such cases, candidates can be denied entry into the exam hall, as the rules strictly permit only clean, original Bare Acts without modifications.
Candidates should ensure they carry the latest and relevant Bare Acts. Here is the list of must-carry Bare Acts for the AIBE 20 Examination:
Constitution of India (all amendments) | The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 |
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) - replaces IPC | The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 |
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) - replaces CrPC | The Income Tax Act, 1961 |
Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) - replaces Evidence Act | Code of Criminal Procedure (if needed for transition) |
Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), 1908 | Family laws: Hindu Marriage Act, 1955; The Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937 |
The Indian Contract Act, 1872 | The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 |
The Specific Relief Act, 1963 | The Information Technology Act, 2000 |
The Advocates Act, 1961 & BCI Rules | The Copyright Act, 1957 |
Bare Acts should be clean, unmarked or with very minimal notes. Invigilators can check Bare Acts, and rejection of non-compliant materials can lead to disqualification or no entry to the exam hall. Prohibited items include:
Textbooks, guides, notes
Separate note sheets or spiral-bound versions with annotations
Mobile phone, calculator, smartwatches, electronic gadgets or any other electronic item
Effective use of Bare Acts in the AIBE 20 exam requires strategic preparation and practice. Follow the steps below to effectively use Bare Acts in the AIBE XX (20) exam:
Know the layout of the Bare Acts: Spend some time understanding how each Bare Act is arranged to find sections quickly during the exam.
Mark important sections lightly: Candidates can highlight important points very lightly before the exam, but avoid heavy marking or writing notes.
Practice finding sections fast: Try locating sections quickly to save time during the exam.
