The NLU Consortium’s plea against the revision of the CLAT 2025 result order by Delhi HC will be heard on January 15. Meanwhile, there is already a Delhi High Court order directing the NLU Consortium to revise the CLAT merit list. If this judgment is sustained in the Supreme Court, many students will have their ranks changed. A previous CLAT result analysis by Careers360 shows, that some students are likely to gain 1.25 marks from question number 14 of SET A CLAT question paper, whereas, some might gain 0.25 marks from question number 100. Having said this, some students may also lose 1.25 marks or 0.25 marks, depending on the answer options they have given.
Effectively, the CLAT rank list 2025 will be revised for these changes, and so will the CLAT cut-offs. Changing the CLAT marks for 1.25 marks means at the mid-lower range of the CLAT merit list, the rank changes by 1000 or even more.
Whereas, students securing 90-92+ marks may not have a significant change in their CLAT rank. However, even a slight change in the rank will have a significant effect on NLU allotments.
So, let’s try to understand how CLAT cut-offs will be changed if the results are revised.
A majority of students in CLAT secure below 75 marks. However, admissions for all India general categories (no reservation) are closed at much higher marks, around 80-85. A majority of seats are, however, reserved under various categories depending on the reservation policies of NLUs.
Students also need to understand that there is no uniform reservation policy in NLUs. In NLUs based in Maharashtra, up to 60% of seats are reserved for students domiciled in the state. Compare this with NLSIU, it offers 310 seats, of which, around 121 seats are for all India general categories, and the remaining are reserved for SC, ST, and Karnataka domicile categories. NALSAR Hyderabad has also reserved 25% of seats for Telangana-domiciled candidates. Of 132 seats, the university offers 50% of seats to all India unreserved categories. All these calculations play an important role in determining the NLU allotment of seats. |
Given the intense competition for top-ranked NLUs, each mark plays a crucial role in determining the NLU allotment. Within a difference of just one mark, there can be 100 students. So, gaining 1.25 or 2 marks would change the CLAT rank by the same 100 or more.
If a student who got a 500 rank in CLAT results 2025, is now getting 1 mark, it may bring him close to 350 - 400 CLAT rank, giving him a good chance of moving from MNLU Mumbai to NLU Jodhpur.
For students who were getting 1300 rank earlier, if added just one mark, their rank might go up by 200, and place them in the CLAT rank range - of 1000-1200. This means the NLU allotment might change by moving them from NLU Ranchi to Odisha or Kochi.
As discussed above a majority of students secure below 80-80 marks. And, this is where a big impact in the CLAT rank list is expected. If you look at the previous year’s CLAT merit list, at CLAT mark 65, a candidate gets a 15,532 rank, adding one mark, the CLAT rank jumps to 14,626. This is a difference of 906 ranks. If we go further down in the rank list, the difference that each mark makes widens. Candidates falling in the rank higher than 15,000 are likely to major changes in their rank in the revised results.
While general category candidates with no reservation will already be out of the NLU race within this rank range, the reserved category candidates will benefit if they gain the marks in the revised list.
There will certainly be some changes in CLAT ranks if the results are revised. However, the CLAT cut-off ranks will remain the same since they depend on candidates’ rank and the NLU preferences. Go through the table given below to understand which NLU offers seats at which rank.

Hello Rajdeep,
You have a good chance of getting into the following NLUs under the OBC Category (cut-offs from previous years, which may change slightly) with an All India Rank of 2754 and an OBC rank of 314 in CLAT 2025:
With 30 marks in CLAT 2025, getting admission in NLU Jodhpur is not possible because its cutoff is usually very high. For general category, students need around 90–95 marks or a top rank. Even for SC/ST categories, the required score is much higher than 30. But don’t worry — you can try for other private law colleges that accept low CLAT scores or prepare again for CLAT 2026. With better preparation, you can get into a good law college next time.
For GGSIPU BA LLB through CLAT 2025, the expected cutoff rank for EWS category students from outside Delhi is around 8,500 to 12,000. This means if your CLAT rank is in this range, you may get admission. Cutoffs can change depending on how many students apply and available seats. So, keep checking official updates during counseling to know the exact cutoff and don’t lose hope!
Hello,
No, for admission in Law College Dhanbad , you do not need to give the CLAT exam. The college takes admission based on its own process or merit, not through CLAT.
Hope it helps !
