While there’s more certainty on CLAT toppers making it to top NLUs such as NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad, there’s far less clarity on lower ranks. To know whether 3000 is a good rank in CLAT, candidates must know the marks that will translate into that rank. The CLAT marks vs rank analysis of last year show that to obtain a 3000 rank in CLAT, a candidate must score around 84+ marks. The approximate range for marks around the 3000 rank is given in the table below.
CLAT Marks (out of 120) | CLAT Rank |
85 - 84.25 marks | 2600 - 2800 rank |
84.25 - 83.75 marks | 2800 - 3000 rank |
83.75 - 83.25 marks | 3000 - 3200 rank |
83.25 - 83 marks | 3200 - 3400 rank |
The data above shows that the margins are very narrow, especially at the top. A difference of 0.5 marks can make a difference of more than 100 ranks. To be on the safer side, a good score in CLAT 2025 for a 3000 rank should be upwards of 85 marks.
The CLAT cut-off trends indicate that a 3000 rank in CLAT is not good for the general category for admission into most NLUs and not just the top-ranked ones such as NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad. Even candidates from the EWS and OBC category will find it difficult to get into top NLUs with a rank of 3000 or lower. However, 3000 will be a good rank in CLAT for candidates from the SC and ST categories. The table below shows the NLUs for which 3000 rank in CLAT will be good for different categories.
