Correct answer: "Had seen."

Explanation: The sentence refers to an action that was completed in the past (last month). The use of "last month" suggests that the event occurred before another event in the past, which requires the past perfect tense ("had seen"). This tense is used to indicate that an action was completed before a certain point in the past.

  • "Saw" is simple past tense and would imply the action happened without emphasizing its completion before another event.

  • "Had been seeing" is past perfect continuous, which indicates an ongoing action in the past, but the sentence suggests a completed event rather than an ongoing one.

  • "Has been seeing" is present perfect continuous, which refers to an ongoing action that started in the past and continues into the present, which doesn't fit here.

5. Though foreigners ............ Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, Indian critics ............ it in the beginning.
(A) Were praising/ignoring
(B) Had praised/had ignored
(C) Praised/ignored
(D) Have been praising / had been ignoring

Correct Answer: (C) Praised/ignored

Explanation:

  • The sentence contrasts two past actions — one by foreigners and another by Indian critics — in the same general past timeframe.

  • "Though foreigners praised..." is simple past tense, indicating a completed action.

  • "Indian critics ignored..." is also in simple past, used to maintain parallel structure and tense consistency.

6. The word "DAINTY" means

(A) Clumsy
(B) Agile
(C) Graceful
(D) Adroit

Correct Answer: (C) Graceful

Explanation: The word "dainty" refers to something delicate, elegant, and graceful, often used to describe something physically small and attractive, or something that is done with elegance. The word "graceful" closely matches this meaning, whereas the other options—"clumsy," "agile," and "adroit"—do not align with the meaning of "dainty."

7. ACTIVE

(A) Functional
(B) Listless
(C) Dynamic
(D) Disgusting

Correct Answer: (C) Dynamic

Explanation: "Active" refers to something full of energy or movement, often indicating dynamism or the ability to change or adapt. "Dynamic" best captures this essence, as it implies constant change, energy, and activity.

  • "Functional" suggests being useful but not necessarily energetic or lively, which is not a synonym for "active."

  • "Listless" means lacking energy or enthusiasm, the opposite of "active."

  • "Disgusting" refers to something causing revulsion, unrelated to the idea of being active.

Thus, "Dynamic" is the best fit for the word "Active."

8. The word "ADVERSITY," and the options are:

(A) Prosperity
(B) Despair
(C) Acidity
(D) Bitterness

Correct answer: (A) Prosperity.

Explanation: "Adversity" refers to a state of hardship or difficulty, often related to challenges or misfortune. The opposite of adversity would be a state of growth or good fortune, which is "prosperity." "Despair" (option B) is a negative emotion related to hopelessness, but it is not an opposite of adversity. The other options, "Acidity" and "Bitterness," do not represent the opposite of adversity either.
