The CLAT 2025 is far from over with its result remaining subject to the outcome of current controversy and court cases. But one thing which is very clear is that there will be no re-CLAT. The CLAT exam is done and dusted. National Law Universities offers just around 3,500 seats in integrated LLB courses and over 75,000 candidates have by now got enough indication if they are going to NLUs. The remaining candidates will continue their struggle to find the top non-NLU law schools.

Now, when you have over 1700 law schools in the country, finding the best ones becomes tricky. So, in this article, we will talk about some of the top five law schools that CLAT 2025 aspirants should look for, especially when they are not getting the top 10-12 NLUs. This article also ignores the SLAT and AILET exams, since these exams are over.

1. Jindal Global Law School

The first one on the list will be Jindal Global Law School. Based in the education city, of Sonipat, Haryana, the JGLS is a great option to study integrated LLB. The college offers BA LLB, BBA LLB and BCom LLB courses. Admissions will be offered through the UK-LNAT. The deadline for LNAT UK registration is March 31.

However, keep in mind that Jindal Global Law School does not accept CLAT or CUET UG. LNAT is mandatory. The course fee of JGLS is approximately 9.85 Lakh per annum, So, the overall cost of five years will be around Rs. 49.25 lakh.

2. Government Law College, Mumbai

Government Law College, Mumbai is another good option. One of the oldest law schools in India, GLC Mumbai accepts MH CET law scores.

The law school offers courses using a more traditional method. Internship opportunities are offered in diverse fields including law firms, Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporates and judicial internships.

The recruiters include AZB & Partners, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, DSK Legal, and Lexicon Law Partners among others. These are the same law firms that also visit the national law universities (NLUs). The internship pay ranges from Rs. 10,000 - 20,000 per month whereas, the associate level payout is as per the industry standards, 6-10 LPA.

3. ILS Pune

ILS Pune is another good option for students to consider. Both GLC Mumbai and ILS Pune are among the top law schools participating in MH CET Law 2025. They have dedicated training and placement cells. The companies visiting ILS Pune include Law firms, corporate, banks and insurance companies.

Among these, the prominent ones are Sharul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Khaitan & Co., DSK Legal, Trilegal, ThinkLaw, Crawford Bayley & Co, Ernst & Young India, CCBL, ICICI Bank, Digit Insurance, HDFC and others.

4. Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

The Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is one of the most popular law schools participating in the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) UG. The BHU is ranked the 24th best law school in India in the NIRF 2024 law school ranking report. The Faculty of Law, at BHU has a history of over 100 years. So, it enjoys a strong alumni base. While, the university is not known for its placements, just like Allahabad University, it is more popular for students going for judiciary or UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE). In this respect, the BHU Faculty of Law has a different culture compared to NLUs. The nearest High Court to BHU is Allahabad High Court, and students get the opportunity to intern in the High Court.

The university has recently started its placement cell. The placement data submitted by BHU shows that the median salary offered to students in the last three years was 7.10 LPA. However, the placement percentage is very low, just three students were placed from a 2018-19 batch of 60 students.

5. Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia, the university based in Okhla New Delhi has been ranked 6th best law school in the country. It offers 60 seats in the BA LLB programme, in regular and self-financing categories. While Jamia Millia Islamia is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities, the limited seats coupled with 30% reserved seats for Muslims means, all India category seats will be less. Admission to JMI University will be held through JMI BA LLB entrance exam.

Regarding placements, students at JMI could ensure a medium salary package of 8.4 LPA in the last batch. The placement percentage is also impressive, placing 51 out of 66 students, almost 77%. In the preceding year, the median placement package offered to students at JMI was 5.4 LPA, with 53 out of 65 getting placed.

Have a question related to CLAT ?

Hello,

Yes, you can prepare for CLAT through self-study. Many students do it and score well. But self-study works only if you are disciplined and follow a proper plan.

Here are a few points to keep in mind:

1. Know the syllabus and pattern.
Understand each section: English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quant.

2. Make a fixed timetable.
Study a little every day. Consistency matters more than long hours.

3. Use good books and online sources.
Choose reliable material so you don’t waste time.

4. Practice a lot.
Solve mock tests and previous papers regularly. This is the most important part of CLAT prep.

5. Analyse your mistakes.
Check where you go wrong and improve those areas.

6. Stay updated with current affairs.
Read daily news or monthly current affairs PDFs.

If you can follow these steps honestly, self-study is enough. If you feel stuck or need guidance with strategy, you can always use online classes or doubt-clearing support.

Hope it helps !

A humanistic approach suggests you consider these factors:

  1. Faculty & Focus: Look for institutions with experienced faculty who offer personalized doubt clearing, not just recorded lectures.

  2. Material Quality: The study material must be updated to the latest CLAT pattern, emphasizing Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs.

For CLAT 2025, the General Knowledge and Current Affairs section has around 28 to 32 questions. These questions come from recent news, events, and general topics like the Constitution, international issues, awards, and government schemes.

You should mainly focus on current events from the last 12 to 18 months. The exam gives short passages from newspapers or magazines, and you have to answer questions based on those passages.

The most important topics are national and international current affairs, major government policies, legal news, awards and honours, science and technology updates, sports events, important personalities, and environmental issues.

Some of the most expected topics for CLAT 2025 are global conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and Middle East updates, major elections in India and other countries, new laws, bills, and reforms in India, international meetings like G20 and COP climate conferences, important awards in 2024 and 2025, recent achievements in science and space technology, and new government schemes and court judgments.

To prepare, you should read current affairs daily, revise important news from April 2024 till now, and practice passage-based questions from mock tests. Static GK (like history, geography, or constitution) should also be studied but only the parts that are connected to current events.
