CLAT 2027: How Many Marks Do You Need for NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS & 3 More Top NLUs?
Over 80,000 candidates are expected to appear for CLAT 2027 UG held for admission to 26 NLUs. NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, GNLU Gandhinagar and NLIU Bhopal are the 6 most sought-after universities that participate in the exam. Students targeting top NLUs should be aware of the marks needed for securing admission to these universities. While the actual CLAT marks and rank cannot be predicted before the exam, previous years' closing ranks give a useful idea of the competition for top NLUs.
The Top 3: NLSIU, NALSAR and NUJS
CLAT 2026 round 5 data shows that for a general category candidate, NLSIU Bengaluru required a rank within AIR 120. NALSAR closed at AIR 168 rank, while NUJS closed comparatively lower.

For CLAT 2027, 100+ marks would be a good target for NLSIU and NALSAR. While candidates with CLAT score around 98 may get NUJS. The actual cutoffs, however, can change depending on the difficulty of the paper and the marks scored by other candidates.

(Note: Marks are out of 120. The 2026 figures are based on the Round 5 closing ranks and corresponding marks-to-rank estimates. In CLAT 2025, marks were higher because the paper was easier and should not be directly compared with the 2026 scores.)
NLSIU and NALSAR continue to be the top 2 most preferred universities in CLAT. Both have closed within the top 200 in the last three years.
WBNUJS has seen a drop in CLAT cut-offs over the years, with its closing rank declining from AIR 275 in 2024 to 343 in 2026. The marks gap, however, is marginal when compared to the top two universities, showing how paper difficulty can change the score required for a particular rank.
NLU Jodhpur's closing ranks have been most consistent in the last three years, closing between AIR 364 and 367. GNLU and NLIU Bhopal also remained within the AIR 500.
What Should Be CLAT 2027 Target for the Top 6 NLUs?
The CLAT cutoff data shows that scoring 96 or above can help candidates to get into the top 6 NLUs. However, the score required varies across these universities:
NLSIU Bengaluru: Aim for 101-103+ marks with a rank around 120 or better.
NALSAR Hyderabad: Target 100-102+ marks with an all-India rank within 170.
WBNUJS Kolkata: Secure at least 98-100+ marks, with an all-India rank within 350.
NLU Jodhpur: Aim for around 97-99 marks and an all-India rank under 370.
GNLU Gandhinagar: Target at least 97 or above marks, with an all-India rank within 450.
NLIU Bhopal: Aim for a score above 96 and an all-India rank within 500.

If you mean CLAT eligibility for admission to 5-year LLB courses, there is no fixed CLAT score/rank that guarantees eligibility. You must first meet the basic Class 12 eligibility criteria, and admission is based on your CLAT rank, category, preferences, and counselling cut-offs.
