With CLAT scores of 50 to 55, candidates have very few choices for NLU admission. With a percentage score of less than 50% in CLAT 2026, candidates from the ST category can make it to some of the tier 2 and tier 3 NLUs. The CLAT cut-off trends indicate that the CLAT score of 50 to 55 will not be enough to clear the NLU cut-off for other categories. Read on to find out the expected rank for CLAT 50 to 55 and the top NLU choices for the rank.

Hello

With an AIR of 4941 and a UP-EWS rank of 1043 in CLAT 2026, getting a top NLU may be difficult.
However, you still have chances in some newer and lower-ranked NLUs, especially in later counselling rounds.
NLUs like Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Sikkim, and Andhra Pradesh can be possible options.
Your UP domicile with EWS may give a very slim chance at RMLNLU Lucknow, mostly in mop-up rounds. Seat availability changes a lot in later rounds, so don’t skip any counselling stage.
It’s good to keep private law colleges as backup options.

Hello,

With a CLAT rank around 20,000 , getting a seat in top IPU law colleges like USLLS or VIPS is very unlikely , even with defence quota. In past years, these colleges usually closed at much lower ranks.

However, IPU has a 5% defence quota , which can help you get a seat at a higher rank than general category candidates. With defence quota, you may have a chance in lower-preferred IPU law colleges in later counselling rounds (sliding or spot rounds).

So, at 20k CLAT rank with defence quota :

  • Top IPU law colleges → Not possible

  • Other IPU-affiliated law colleges → Possible in later rounds

  • Seat is not guaranteed , depends on vacancies and your defence priority

You should participate in all counselling rounds and keep defence documents ready to improve your chances.

You can also use our CLAT College Predictor Tool to predict which colleges you can get based on your score and rank.

Hope it helps !

If you have scored around 85 marks in CLAT 2026, you have a fair chance of getting admission into some of the mid to lower tier National Law Universities, depending on factors like your category, domicile reservation, women quota and the overall difficulty level of the paper this year.

With a score of 85, general category candidates usually have better chances in NLUs such as NLU Odisha (Cuttack), NLU Assam (Guwahati), NLU Ranchi, NLU Raipur, NLU Patiala, NLU Shimla, NLU Aurangabad, NLU Trichy or NLU Visakhapatnam. If you belong to a reserved category like SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or have domicile or women reservation, your chances improve further and you may also be considered for comparatively better NLUs within the same score range.

Top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLUD Delhi, NLU Jodhpur and GNLU Gandhinagar generally require much higher scores, so getting into these with 85 marks would be difficult under the general category. However, cutoffs change every year based on seat matrix, number of applicants, reservation policies and counselling rounds, so nothing can be ruled out completely until the counselling process ends.

You should participate in CLAT counselling, fill as many preferences as possible in a realistic order, and stay active through all rounds, including vacancy and spot rounds if announced. Many candidates secure seats in later rounds due to withdrawals.

Overall, 85 is a decent score and gives you a reasonable chance of securing an NLU seat, especially in mid or newer NLUs. Stay positive, plan your preferences wisely, and keep checking counselling updates regularly. All the best.

Hello,

With 51 marks in CLAT, ST category, and Jharkhand domicile, your chances in top NLU are low, but you may have a possibility in lower or newer NLU, especially those offering ST reservation or state domicile quota if available. Final admission will depend on your category rank, seat matrix, and counselling rounds.
