1. If January 12, 1980, was a Saturday, what day would January 12, 1979 be?
Explanation: The year 1980 was a leap year, meaning it had 366 days. The number of days in a normal year is 365, which is equivalent to 52 weeks and 1 extra day. So, going back from January 12, 1980 (Saturday), to January 12, 1979, we go back exactly one year, which shifts the day back by one day.
2. A takes 12 days to complete a task, B takes 15 days and C takes 20 days. How many days will it take to complete the task if all A, B and C work together?
Explanation: The work done by A in one day = 1/12
The work done by B in one day = 1/15
The work done by C in one day = 1/20
Total work done per day = (1/12) + (1/15) + (1/20)
Taking LCM of 12, 15, and 20, we get 60.
Converting to a common denominator:
(5/60) + (4/60) + (3/60) = 12/60 = 1/5
So, the total work will be completed in 5 days.
3. What is the meaning of envisage?
Explanation: "Envisage" means to visualize, foresee, or imagine something as a possibility in the future.
