Assertion-reason type questions prove beneficial in measuring a student’s capability to comprehend a statement and find out the reason behind it, along with verifying the logical relation. In law entrance examinations like CLAT, AILET and SLAT, these types of questions will prove to be useful in improving logical reasoning and legal reasoning.
For CLAT 2027, AILET 2027 and SLAT 2027, candidates need to practise questions where just rote learning won’t suffice. The emphasis must be placed on comprehending the information provided and selecting the right choice that establishes the logical relation between the assertion and reason.
An assertion and reason question comprises two statements:
Assertion (A): A statement that can either be true or false.
Reason (R): A statement that explains or supports the assertion of the question.
In these questions, students have to:
Decide whether the assertion is true or false.
Decide whether the reason is true or false.
See whether the reason explains the assertion.

The common answer choices for this type of question follow this pattern:
Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
A is true, but R is false.
A is false, but R is true.
With regular practice, you can develop the ability to solve Assertion and Reason Questions for CLAT, AILET and SLAT:
Practice logical reasoning skills.
Practice cause and effect relationships.
Critical thinking.
Ability to identify assumptions within a statement.
Ability to read questions carefully.
Avoid choosing the answer merely because both statements are correct.

How to Solve Assertion and Reason Questions
A simple way of answering such questions is given below:
Step 1: Read the assertion separately.
Without reading the reason, check whether the assertion is logically correct or not.
Step 2: Read the reason separately.
Check whether the reason is factually or logically correct.
Step 3: Form the link between the two.
If both the statements are correct, then ask yourself whether the reason given is really the cause of the correctness of the assertion.
If there is no link formed, select the answer which says that both are correct, but the reason is not correct.
Step 4: Don’t assume anything from outside.
Read the question without bringing any extra information to it unless the question demands it.
Some Assertion and Reason type questions are provided below for CLAT, AILET, and SLAT 2027. These questions will help you practice logical reasoning. Making personal opinions rather than using the data provided.
Spending too much time on one question.
