For years, BA LLB was a default choice for 5-year LLB aspirants in Maharashtra. However, with the changing corporate and commercial scenarios, student preferences have also changed, and the recent MHCET allotment data are clear evidence of growing demand for BBA LLB. The MH CET 5-year LLB cutoffs 2026 for round 1 were released on August 18, 2026. The recent round 1 allotment data of 5-year LLB reveals a clear trend: BBA LLB is becoming more competitive compared to BA LLB. In 7 popular colleges offering both BBA LLB and BA LLB courses, BBA LLB cutoffs are equal to or higher than the BA LLB course.
The data from the current admission cycle shows that BBA LLB is a clear favourite among students. In the MH State Open category, the BBA LLB course has been a clear preference among students, and the data proves it. In none of the seven colleges offering both courses is the cutoff of BA LLB higher than BBA LLB in this category. In the OMS category too, there has been a tough fight between the courses. In the female category, the BBA LLB course saw a higher preference, except for MMM Shankarrao Chavan Law College, where the BA LLB cutoff is slightly higher than the BBA LLB cutoff. The tables below give a clear picture of where both these courses stand in terms of student preference.

A comparative analysis of the cutoffs of both colleges shows that there is very little difference in cutoffs in the top-tier colleges like ILS Law College, Pune, DES Navalmal Firodia and MMM Shankarrao Chavan Law College. However, in mid-tier colleges like SNBP and Surydatta, the cutoff difference between both courses is huge. In the MH General category, the BA LLB cutoffs for Surydatta and SNBP for BA LLB are 79.08 percentile (3464 rank) and 77.04 percentile (3929 rank), respectively, whereas for BBA LLB it is 86.87 percentile (2052 rank) and 84.68 percentile (2529 rank). This is a difference of more than 7 percentile scores, which can be deemed huge in the opening round of admissions.
BBA LLB is no longer an ‘alternative option', and candidates see it as a legitimate career choice. BBA LLB is the more competitive/in-demand course at almost every college that offers both courses, especially once you move past the top 2-3 institutions. In the past few years, the corporate sector has changed the perception of how students view a BBA LLB degree. While BA LLB remains the most preferred course in general, with more colleges offering it, specialised courses like BBA LLB are being preferred for corporate law.
