The Jharkhand Public Service Commission conducts the Jharkhand Judicial Services Exam for the position of Civil Judge (Junior Division). There are three main steps in the recruitment process. Candidates are required to appear for the preliminary exam, main exam, and the viva voce. The Jharkhand Judicial Service syllabus 2026 differs for both prelims and mains. There are two exams under the prelims and 6 papers under the mains exam. Candidates who qualify the prelims will be eligible to appear for the Jharkhand PCS-J Main exam 2026. The final score will only include the scores from the mains exam.
The preliminary exam is conducted to shortlist candidates for the mains examination. This exam consists of a total of 400 questions, divided into two exams: General Studies - I and General Studies - II (Jharkhand-specific questions). Each question carries 2 marks. The detailed Jharkhand Higher Judiciary syllabus of the prelims is given in the table below.

The Jharkhand Judicial Mains Exam consists of six papers. The first paper, General Hindi and General English, is a qualifying paper of 100 marks. Candidates need to score at least 30 marks to qualify for this exam. The marks obtained in this paper will not count towards the final merit marks.

The second exam under the Jharkhand Judiciary Mains is the Language and Literature exam. This paper carries 150 marks that will be counted while preparing the final merit list. Candidates are required to select any one language from the list given below.

The third paper of the Jharkhand PCS-J 2026 exam is social sciences, including two main sections: History and Geography. Each section of Paper 3 consists of 100 marks. There will be optional questions in both sections of the paper. 40% of the questions will be related to the state of Jharkhand. The detailed syllabus of both history and geography is given below.

The fifth paper under the Jharkhand PCS-J 2026 exam is the Indian Economy, Globalization and Sustainable Development. This paper contains five sections. Section 1 will carry 40 marks and is compulsory for all candidates. It contains 20 objective-type questions of two marks each. The other sections will have two optional questions.
