The CLAT 2027 syllabus has five sections: current affairs & GK, English, maths, legal and logical reasoning. The CLAT syllabus trap is that the exam is a skill-based exam and there is no fixed list of topics provided by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The CLAT exam is an aptitude test that examines the candidate’s skills required to pursue legal education rather than their existing legal knowledge. Candidates must practice comprehension, analytical, and reasoning skills through daily reading, solving mathematical equations, comprehension questions, etc.
Below are some of the CLAT syllabus traps that affect candidates’ preparation.
The CLAT 2027 does not require legal knowledge to solve legal reasoning questions. Aspirants need not memorize names of the law, section numbers, and cases. The questions asked are fact-based, involving legal matters, public policy questions, or moral philosophical enquiries. Candidates are required to have general awareness of legal issues.
Each section of the CLAT 2027 exam has a specific weightage. Candidates focus heavily on high-weightage topics such as current affairs & GK and legal reasoning. Ignoring lower-weightage sections is one of the most common mistakes amongst aspirants. The CLAT 2027 math section holds the least weightage of 10% but is considered a scoring section with proper preparation. Candidates are advised to allocate appropriate time to topics that require more preparation while regularly practicing questions that require the least preparation.
The current affairs and GK section must not be prepared towards the end of the preparation. Candidates tend to only memorize the important events and rely on current affairs PDFs available on the web. The current affairs section requires daily reading of newspapers and journalistic writing. Candidates can refer to the CLAT 2027 daily current affairs series with practice questions published by Careers360 from daily news.
The CLAT 2027 exam is passage-based and requires analytical and comprehension skills throughout. Memorizing vocabulary without understanding the context is not useful in the exam. Candidates must prepare to read lengthy passages quickly and answer related questions.
Candidates are advised to practice using multiple resources such as CLAT mock tests, sample papers, previous years’ question papers, books, etc. This helps them understand the type of questions asked, difficulty level, and common topics covered in the exam. Candidates must also analyse their answers after attempting a mock test to understand their weak areas.

It is important to understand that apart from the CLAT 2027 syllabus and topics covered in each section, candidates must also work on the skills required for the exam.
Time management: It is important to practice the CLAT 2027 mock tests by timing each section. Candidates are required to answer 120 questions in 120 minutes in the CLAT 2027 exam.
Speed: Candidates must practice to read and comprehend lengthy passages quickly, as the entire CLAT 2027 exam is passage-based.
Accuracy: Practicing basic concepts in each section ensures accuracy. It is important to practice these skills to avoid negative marking in the exam.
Reading skills: Candidates are advised to inculcate daily reading in their routine. Reading newspapers, journalistic articles, literary excerpts, etc can help improve reading skills.
Comprehension skills: Practicing CLAT previous year question papers can help improve comprehension skills required for the exam. Especially sections like logical and legal reasoning require candidates to critically analyse the passages for answering.
