The Bar Council of India (BCI) has officially extended the deadline for uploading enrolment certificates for the All India Bar Examination 19 (XIX). Candidates falling under the pass (undertaking) or withheld categories now upload their enrolment certificate by June 21, 2026. This extension gives an opportunity to law graduates who appeared for the AIBE 19 exam on December 22, 2024. Candidates who had not received their permanent enrolment from their State Bar Councils at that time can now use this period to complete the required process. A candidate cannot legally represent clients or sign vakalatnamas in Indian courts without a CoP.

The requirement to upload an enrolment certificate applies only to specific groups of candidates. This includes those candidates who were marked as "Pass (Undertaking)" and who were allowed to take the exam while their official state registration was still being processed. Additionally, this step is mandatory for candidates with "Withheld" results due to missing information or those who need to fix errors in their State Bar Council (SBC) records.
Candidates must upload a clear, scanned copy of their permanent enrolment certificate to verify their professional status. Once this document is successfully checked and approved, the Bar Council of India will issue the Certificate of Practice (CoP), which is the official license required to practice law in India.
Candidates must satisfy the following requirements to qualify for the Certificate of Practice (CoP) following the AIBE XIX (19) examination:
Candidates must have completed a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree from a BCI-recognised institution.
Applicants must be registered as an "Advocate" on the rolls of a State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961.
Candidates must have scored a minimum of 45% (General/OBC) or 40% (SC/ST) in the AIBE XIX exam.
Eligible candidates must successfully upload their enrolment certificate to the official AIBE portal. This submission must be completed by the extended deadline of June 21, 2026, for final verification and the issuance of the CoP.

CoP is the most essential document for any lawyer in India. It serves as the legal license to practice law in Indian courts and is issued by the Bar Council of India (BCI) after candidates pass their AIBE exam. Without a valid CoP, a law graduate is not legally authorised to represent clients or appear before a judge in court. CoP also confirms professional credentials, allowing lawyers to join bar associations, vote in council elections, and access various welfare schemes for advocates.
