Supreme Court Allows Green Firecrackers for Two Days in Delhi-NCR

In the news: The Supreme Court allowed the sale and bursting of certified green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR only on November 7 and 8, after which the complete ban will resume. The Bench said only manufacturers certified by CSIR-NEERI and PESO can produce green crackers between November 2 and 6, and only crackers with product-specific QR codes can be sold. Cancelled trader licences will be restored temporarily from November 4 to 6.

The Court said the right to religious practice under Article 25(1) is subject to public order, morality and health, and that the right to life under Article 21 includes the right to a healthy, pollution-free environment. It noted the State had "utterly failed" to enforce its cracker restrictions since 2015.
