This is a surprising outcome for Asia’s oldest and one of the most sought-after law colleges in Maharashtra. Admissions to its LLB programs are highly competitive, with MH CET law cutoffs closing at the 99th percentile in the state law entrance exam. Such intense competition naturally creates expectations of strong campus recruitment — expectations that the GLC's RTI placement data challenges.

The year-wise placement data below highlights how both LLB programs have performed over the last two admission cycles in terms of campus placements and salary outcomes:

GLC Placements for 3-year LLB

The 3-year LLB data points to modest on-campus recruitment. The total number of placements dropped from 13 in 2024 to just five in 2025. Even the highest package declined over 50% from ₹14 lakh per annum to ₹6.60 lakh per annum. In 2024, six of the 13 placed students did not disclose their salary packages.

GLC Placements for 5-year LLB

The 5-year LLB placement numbers also remain modest relative to the 240 student annual intake. The total number of students placed in 2024 dropped from 43 to 35 in the previous two cycles. The highest package declined from ₹16.20 LPA to ₹12 LPA.

Furthermore, many students (27 in 2024 and 24 in 2025) did not disclose their salary packages to the Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC). As a result, a major portion of actual salary outcomes is unrecorded from the data available.

Why Does the 5-Year LLB Perform Better?

Despite the overall low placement, the 5-year LLB performs better than the 3-year program in both years. It had better campus placements and salary packages. While the 3-year course saw its placement numbers in single digits (in 2025), the 5-year program had 35 students placed. This trend is reflected in salary packages as well. In 2024, the highest package was ₹16.20 LPA, while in the 3-year course, it was ₹14 LPA.

One possible reason for this disparity is the structure of the integrated programme itself and recruiters’ preferences. The integrated programme gives students an early and longer exposure to legal training. Students have five years to develop their CVs with internships, professional networks, moot courts, and research projects, etc. This is a better option for law firms and corporate recruiters looking for candidates with long-term experience in the legal field.

How is GLC in comparison to NLUs and ILS Pune

GLC Mumbai is often compared to tier-2 NLUs and ILS Pune for placements. The salary packages for tier-2 NLUs ranged from ₹8 LPA to ₹16.50 LPA during the 2024-25 placement cycle. Their placement percentages ranged from 31.58% to 100%. ILS Pune placed 33 students from 130 students who registered for campus placements in 2023-24.

However, many top rankers still prefer GLC over Tier-2 NLUs and ILS Pune. This preference is based on a few key factors: lower fees, its prime location in South Mumbai, and direct access to the city's legal ecosystem.
