5 Common Excuses CLAT Aspirants Make (And How to Stop)

CLAT 2027 preparation does not only involve hard work but also being truthful with oneself. There are many candidates who have an idea about what they should do but always make some small excuses for doing so later. Missing one session of study may not mean a lot, but having the same excuse every day may make a difference.

5 Common Excuses CLAT Aspirants Make (And How to Stop)

Whether you are a school student, a college student or a dropper, the biggest challenge is often not the syllabus but staying consistent. Here are five common excuses CLAT 2027 aspirants make and simple ways to stop making them.

Common Excuses CLAT Aspirants Make (And How to Stop)

The preparation for CLAT 2027 may seem intimidating given all the distractions that you have, including school, college, social media, and other commitments. It is important to understand that perfection is not required for the preparation for CLAT 2027. Below are some of the excuses that CLAT 2027 aspirants give and how they can be countered.

    1. I Don’t Have Enough Time to Prepare for CLAT

This is probably one of the most common excuses in CLAT 2027 preparation. Students often think they need six or eight hours every day to prepare properly. When they cannot find that much time, they end up studying nothing.

The reality is that even a few focused hours can make a difference if used consistently. A school student may have classes, homework and other responsibilities, while a dropper may have more time but different commitments.

How to Stop Making This Excuse

Instead of asking, “How many hours do I have?”, ask, “What can I complete today?”

    You can start with:

    • 30 minutes of reading or CLAT 2027 current affairs

    • One Logical or Legal Reasoning practice session

    • One Reading Comprehension passage

    • 20–30 minutes of revision

A realistic two-hour study session is better than a 10-hour timetable that you follow for only two days.

    2. I’ll Start Properly From Tomorrow

Tomorrow is probably the favourite word of every procrastinating CLAT 2027 student.

You may tell yourself that today is already wasted so that you will start fresh tomorrow. Then tomorrow becomes Monday, next week or next month. Before you realise it, several weeks have passed.

CLAT preparation requires regular practice. Reading skills, reasoning ability and speed cannot be developed overnight.

How to Stop Making This Excuse

Do not wait for the perfect day to start. Start with something small today.

If you have only 30 minutes, solve a few questions. If you cannot take a mock test, revise your mistakes. If you are tired, read a short article or revise current affairs.

The goal is not to have a perfect study day. The goal is to avoid completely breaking the habit.

    3. I’m Not Good at Maths/Logical Reasoning/English

Many aspirants decide that they are simply “bad” at a particular section. Once they believe this, they avoid that subject and spend more time on the sections they already find comfortable.

This may feel productive, but it can create a major weakness in your preparation.

For example, if Quantitative Techniques is difficult for you, avoiding it will not make it easier. Similarly, if you struggle with Reading Comprehension, solving only reasoning questions will not improve your reading speed.

How to Stop Making This Excuse

Stop treating a weak subject as something you cannot improve.

Also, track your mistakes. Ask yourself:

    • Did I misunderstand the concept?

    • Did I make a calculation error?

    • Did I misread the question?

    • Did I run out of time?

    4. I Need More Books and Study Material First

Another common excuse is spending too much time collecting study material instead of actually studying it.

Students may download multiple PDFs, buy several books, save hundreds of videos and collect different current affairs resources. After some time, they have plenty of material but very little revision.

More resources do not automatically mean better preparation.

How to Stop Making This Excuse

Select appropriate and dependable study material and make appropriate use of it. The preparation must emphasise:

    • Understanding concepts

    • Practising questions

    • Reading regularly

    • Revising current affairs

    • Solving previous-year questions

    • Taking mock tests

    • Analysing mistakes

Before adding a new resource, ask yourself whether you have completed and revised the resources you already have.

Remember: five books that you actually study are more useful than twenty books sitting on your desk.

    5. My Mock Scores Are Low, So I’m Not Good Enough

A low CLAT 2027 mock test score can be disappointing. After seeing a poor score, some students stop taking mocks because they are afraid of getting another low score.

But avoiding mocks does not solve the problem. It only hides it.

A mock test is not a final judgement of your CLAT performance. It is a tool that shows you where you currently stand.

How to Stop Making This Excuse

Do not look only at your score. Analyse the entire CLAT 2027 mock test.

    Check:

    • Which questions were incorrect?

    • What questions were not answered?

    • What questions took a lot of time?

    • What topics led to making the same mistakes?

    • Were the mistakes caused by lack of knowledge or carelessness?

Maintain an error log and revisit it regularly. If the same mistake appears in three consecutive mocks, that is not a reason to panic—it is a clear signal about what you need to work on.

How to Stay Consistent With CLAT 2027 Preparation

Removing excuses does not mean studying every hour of the day. This will involve developing a routine that you can effectively adhere to.

Rather than setting unachievable goals, ensure that your goals are realistic. You may opt to go through a single RC passage, reason out certain questions and also update yourself on current affairs every day.

Keep your phone away during study sessions and take short breaks when needed. Most importantly, do not compare your preparation hours with those of other aspirants. Someone studying for four focused hours may accomplish more than someone sitting at a desk for eight distracted hours.

    Conclusion

Preparing for CLAT 2027 becomes tough if making excuses becomes a practice.I don’t have enough time,” “I’ll start tomorrow,” “I’m weak in this subject,” “I need more material,” and “My mock score is too low” may sound reasonable, but repeatedly using them can slow down your preparation.

You do not need a perfect routine to prepare for CLAT 2027. You need a realistic plan, regular practice and the willingness to correct your mistakes.

Start with what you have, study what you can, and improve one weakness at a time. Consistency will take you much further than excuses ever will.
