The Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry first came into existence as the Madras Bar Council under Bar Council Act, 1926. The Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry is responsible for carrying out enrolment of advocates within its jurisdiction of the state of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Law graduates who are intending to practise law in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry must complete Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry registration. The enrolment is one of the necessary steps to be eligible to appear for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Earlier , the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry bar council enrollment date 2024 was scheduled to September 23, 2024. However , the next enrollment date for bar council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will be decided soon.
Upon clearing the AIBE, candidates will be granted a Certificate of Practice (CoP). In India, it is compulsory for law graduates to obtain a CoP to become an advocate. This rule has been in effect since 2009-10 onwards.
As per the AIBE eligibility criteria laid down by the Bar Council of India, candidates must have completed a 5-year LLB or a 3-year LLB programme to appear for the AIBE. The All India Bar Examination is a post enrolment examination. This means that candidates must be enrolled as an advocate with a state bar council before appearing for the exam.
The advocate enrolment is provisional and is subject to the candidate passing the exam. Further the enrolment as an advocate is valid only for two years. However, the candidate can continue to appear for the AIBE exam any number of times, even beyond two years after the enrolment.
Fresh law graduates can complete Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry registration by visiting the official website and filling the application form. However, they must ensure they meet the Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry eligibility criteria before filling up the application form.
Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry Enrolment requirements
The State Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry stipulates that candidates must advertise in a newspaper about their intention to enrol with the state bar council 10 days before registration.
The address mentioned in the newspaper notice should be the same as that mentioned in the personal identity proof.
The communication address, personal address proof, and the newspaper notice address should be the same. A mismatch can lead to the application not being processed.
This address will be printed on Form 6 or 7 generated at the time of registration.
The candidates must visit the official website of the state bar council to complete the registration. They should also keep certain documents ready to be uploaded with the application form. Given below are the steps

Upon approval of the submitted Bar Council of TamilNadu and Puducherry registration form, the candidate would be required to choose their time slot to visit the council for registration.
The candidate must then visit the council at the chosen time slot. He or she must bring all the required documents outlined above including the form 6 and 7. Upon successful data entry, the candidate has to then make the online payment of the Bar Council of TamilNadu enrolment fee.
Upon successful verification of the documents, the candidate would be required to sign on Form V. The authorities would then proceed towards conducting background verification.

If the candidate fails to bring any document, the candidates will be required to book another slot.
The candidate must be present at the Bar Council premises at least 20 mins before the stipulated time.
The candidate must also bring one self-addressed legal size postal cover and paste a Rs.50 stamp so that the authorities can send original enrolment certificate and ID card after completion of the enrolment process.

Male candidates: Black/ White Pant with White Shirt, Black Necktie & Black Coat.
Female candidates: White Saree/ Chudidhar with black WaistCoat.

Upon successful completion of background verification, the candidates would appear before the enrolment committee and then be administered an oath of enrolment. The enrolment certificate would then be sent to the candidate by post.

The BPP is typically required for those who do not have a formal educational qualification equivalent to 10+2.it has nothing to do with aibe exam because it conducted to assess basic level knowledge of law degree student and lay down minimum benchmark for entering into practice of law in addition to assessing candidate's analytical skills.
To take AIBE EXAM you need to do bachelor's degree in law either of five or three years course from a recognised university.if you done your graduation you can take admission in three years law course through direct entry or by giving law entrance exam like CLAT CUET ailet etc.
