Amity University-Noida Law Admissions 2026
Among top 100 Universities Globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026
The Bar Council of India has barred unapproved law colleges from admitting new students for the academic session 2026-27. In the official notification, BCI stated that no further extension will be given for BCI approval for the coming academic session. Colleges were allowed to make submissions for BCI approval till July 31, 2026. Furthermore, the BCI also said that it will only consider those applications which meet its specified criteria. Submissions that have merely created a draft, uploaded some documents, or made partial fee payment will not be considered at all.
BCI has clearly stated that it has already extended the deadline for the application four times and no further extensions will be made hereon. Initially, the deadline to submit the BCI approval application was December 31, 2025. The deadline was then extended to January 16, March 5 and finally up to July 31, 2026. Colleges that could not submit applications before July 31 will not be given approval of affiliation for the Academic Session 2026–27.
Existing centres of Legal Education seeking approval of affiliation for the academic session 2026-27 were required to submit their applications before the deadline. Colleges had to attach the affiliation order of the University for the relevant academic session while submitting their application. Along with the affiliation order, the college also had to submit all mandatory documents and prescribed fees. BCI will process such applications in accordance with the Rules of Legal Education, 2008 and the applicable regulatory framework. Extension of approval to existing centres of legal education will only be made after scrutiny, inspection, and approval by the competent authority of the Bar Council of India.
In its circular, the BCI has stated that it will not consider any incomplete applications for extensions of approval. Any submissions with incomplete documents, partial fee payment, etc will be rejected. The official BCI circular read, “Merely opening an application, creating a draft, uploading some documents or making partial payment shall not constitute submission of an application. An application shall be treated as submitted only when it has been completed in all respects, all mandatory documents have been uploaded, the prescribed fees have been paid, and final submission has been made on the portal within the stipulated period.”
Any existing Centre of Legal Education that failed to apply before the deadline, did not submit a complete application including the valid affiliation or continuation-of-affiliation order of the University concerned, together with all required documents and prescribed fee, or did not obtain an extension of approval will be barred from admitting students for the 2026–27 academic year. All law colleges must ensure that admissions are only made against those courses, sections and intake which have valid approval of BCI for the academic year 2026-27.
