CLAT score of 50 marks or below is considered a low score. The rank equivalent to a CLAT score of 45 to 50 is around 28000 to 32000. Candidates might face challenges in finding National Law Universities (NLUs) with this score. Based on the previous year’s CLAT cut off, there are no NLU available for General, OBC, ST and EWS categories. However, a few NLUs accept candidates with this score from the SC category. Candidates require a CLAT score of 90+ to get admission into top NLUs. Those who are unable to get into NLUs can look for private law colleges.
CLAT 2026 does not have a fixed passing marks criterion; admission to National Law Universities is based on the candidate’s rank in the merit list, which depends on their exam score, the number of applicants, seat availability, and category. The official cut-off marks and merit list will be released after evaluation, determining the scores required to secure admission.
Limited NLUs accept candidates with a low CLAT score. Only candidates from specific categories can get admitted into tier 2 or tier 3 NLUS. The table below provides the equivalent rank for a CLAT score ranging from 45 to 50.
Score | Rank |
46 | 32811 |
47 | 31706 - 31722 |

49.25 | 29621 |
49.5 | 29408 |
