CLAT 2026 Marks 80 to 85: Expected Rank and NLUs You Are Likely to Get

Isha GargUpdated on 07 Dec 2025, 06:03 PM IST

A score of 80-85 in CLAT 2026 places candidates in a competitive rank range of 1,632 to 3,506. With this range, getting admission to top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad is unlikely for general category aspirants. However, several other NLUs such as GNLU Gandhinagar, RMLNLU Lucknow, CNLU Patna, NUALS Kochi, NLU Odisha, and MNLU Mumbai admit general candidates at higher closing ranks. For reserved category candidates, especially SC and ST, admission is much easier, with many premier NLUs admitting them at ranks above 3,000. EWS and OBC candidates also find opportunities at several NLUs.

General Category With CLAT Score of 80 to 85

Most tier 1 NLUs admit general candidates at top ranks, making entry into premier NLUs difficult with this score. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad closed their general category admission rounds at ranks well below 1,632 in 2025. However, several other NLUs admit general category students at higher closing ranks, often within or above the 1,632-3,506 range. Some of these NLUs are NUSRL Ranchi, NLUJA Assam, DSNLU Visakhapatnam, TNNLU Tiruchirappalli, MNLU Mumbai, MNLU Nagpur, DBRANLU Sonepat and several others.

Reserved Category With CLAT Score of 80 to 85

OBC and EWS candidates with ranks ranging from 1,632 to 3,506, have good admission opportunities at several NLUs. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad closed their admissions before rank 1,632 in 2025 for EWS and OBC. For EWS candidates, NLUs such as NLIU Bhopal (BA LLB), NLU Jodhpur, and GNLU Gandhinagar also closed their admissions before rank 1,632. However, both categories have strong opportunities at mid-tier and tier 3 NLUs such as GNLU Gandhinagar, RMLNLU Lucknow, CNLU Patna, NUALS Kochi, NLU Odisha, MNLU Mumbai, and other several NLUs.

SC and ST candidates scoring between 80 and 85 marks in CLAT 2026, with ranks ranging from 1,632 to 3,506, have strong admission prospects at several NLUs. In 2025, top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad closed their SC and ST category admissions at ranks above 3,000, meaning candidates with ranks starting from 1,632 have a good chance at these institutions. Other NLUs such as WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, GNLU Gandhinagar, HNLU Raipur, CNLU Patna, MNLU Aurangabad, and NUALS Kochi also admit SC and ST candidates within this rank range.
