CLAT 2027 Legal Reasoning Question Paper Structure

    • Legal Reasoning is a comprehension test that assesses analytical and reasoning skills instead of legal knowledge.

    • The test comprises about 5–6 passages each followed by MCQs.

    • A typical passage is normally 450 words long.

    • Passages may contain legal principles, constitutional matters, public policies, landmark decisions, social issues, and even moral or philosophical issues.

    • These questions need you to apply your understanding of the legal principles in the passage, analyze the facts, and draw the right conclusions from those.

    • Everything that you will need to solve the questions comes only from the passage itself.

    • You don’t need to know anything about the law in advance, but some knowledge of legal principles and current events in the legal world may help you.

    • Reading comprehension and logical reasoning are critical for answering the questions in this test.

    • Practice is extremely helpful for building up your speed and accuracy.

CLAT 2027 Legal Reasoning Practice Questions

The following are CLAT 2027 Legal Reasoning practice questions based on the latest exam pattern.

    Passage 1

In recent years, the Government of India has introduced several initiatives under the "One Nation" framework to promote greater uniformity in governance and public service delivery across the country. These initiatives seek to replace fragmented state-level systems with nationwide mechanisms that improve accessibility, transparency, and administrative efficiency.

One of the earliest examples is the Goods and Services Tax (GST), popularly known as "One Nation, One Tax," which replaced multiple indirect taxes levied by the Centre and States with a unified taxation system. Similarly, the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme enables beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act to obtain subsidised food grains from any fair price shop across India, regardless of their place of residence. This has particularly benefited migrant workers and their families.

The Government has also launched the One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) initiative to provide nationwide access to academic journals and research publications for students and researchers. Another proposal that has generated significant public debate is One Nation, One Election (ONOE), which seeks to conduct simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and all State Legislative Assemblies. A High-Level Committee chaired by former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind was constituted to examine its feasibility. The Law Commission of India (2018) had also studied the legal and constitutional aspects of simultaneous elections.

Supporters of these initiatives argue that they reduce duplication, improve governance, minimise administrative costs, and ensure equal access to public services throughout the country. Critics, however, contend that such measures may reduce the flexibility available to States to frame policies suited to their regional needs. The debate therefore reflects the constitutional balance between national uniformity and India's federal structure.

    1. Which Constitutional Amendment Bill was introduced to facilitate the implementation of "One Nation, One Election"?

    (A) One Hundred and Third Amendment
    (B) One Hundred and Twenty-Fourth Amendment
    (C) One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Amendment
    (D) One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment

Correct Option: (C) One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Amendment

Solution: The 127th Constitutional Amendment Bill was introduced to empower the Election Commission of India to implement simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. Hence, Option (C) is correct.

    2. Which report examined the feasibility of conducting simultaneous elections in India?

    (A) Sarkaria Commission Report
    (B) Law Commission of India Report, 2018
    (C) Punchhi Commission Report
    (D) Second Administrative Reforms Commission Report

Correct Option: (B) Law Commission of India Report, 2018

Solution: The Law Commission of India, in its 2018 Report, analysed the constitutional, legal, and practical aspects of conducting simultaneous elections in India. Therefore, Option (B) is correct.

    3. Who chaired the High-Level Committee on "One Nation, One Election"?

    (A) Shri Ram Nath Kovind
    (B) Shri Droupadi Murmu
    (C) Shri Narendra Modi
    (D) Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar

Correct Option: (A) Shri Ram Nath Kovind

Solution: The High-Level Committee to examine the feasibility of simultaneous elections was chaired by former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Hence, Option (A) is the correct answer.

    4. According to the latest GST reforms, which GST rate structure was introduced?

    (A) 5%, 12% and 18%
    (B) 5%, 18% and 28%
    (C) 12%, 18% and 40%
    (D) 5%, 18% and 40%

    Correct Option: (D) 5%, 18% and 40%

Solution: As per the latest GST Council reforms, the GST structure was simplified with the primary slabs of 5% and 18%, along with a new 40% slab for luxury and sin goods. Therefore, Option (D) is correct.

    5. Which group benefits the most from the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme?

    (A) Government employees
    (B) College students
    (C) Migrant labourers
    (D) Industrial workers only

    Correct Option: (C) Migrant labourers

Solution: The One Nation, One Ration Card scheme enables eligible beneficiaries, especially migrant workers, to receive subsidised food grains from any fair price shop across India. Hence, Option (C) is correct.
