AIBE Application Date:29 Sep' 25 - 28 Oct' 25
The Bar Council of India (BCI) will conduct the All India Bar Examination (AIBE XX) on November 30, 2025. The result of AIBE 20 will be declared tentatively 2-3 months after the exam. The AIBE 20 result will be prepared as per the final answer key. Candidates can calculate their final score in AIBE 20 and determine whether they have passed or failed the All India Bar Examination. In this article, let’s look at what are the implications for candidates if they fail in AIBE including the eligibility criteria, passing marks, and more.
A candidate fails in AIBE when they fail to score above the AIBE cut-off. BCI has specified 45% marks for general/OBC and 40% marks for SC/ST candidates as passing marks in AIBE.
However, due to the revisions made in the AIBE final answer key, certain questions may be withdrawn and the total marks in the exam may come down. This reduces the AIBE cut-off. In AIBE 19, 7 questions have been withdrawn in the final answer key. The total marks in AIBE 19 are now 93 marks and the passing marks will also be revised.
Category | Pass % | Passing Marks |
General/OBC | 45% | 41+ marks out of 93 |
SC/ST | 40% | 37+ marks out of 93 |
As per the AIBE eligibility criteria, there is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for AIBE. BCI also does not prescribe any age limit to appear for the bar exam. It means if a candidate fails in AIBE, they can always come back and appear for the next session of the exam.
As per the revised AIBE eligibility criteria implemented from AIBE 19 onwards, even final-year law students without any backlogs can appear for the exam. Such candidates must make sure they also clear their final semester exams. The AIBE result for final-year students is only provisional and will be subject to them clearing their law degree exams within a specified period.

On Question asked by student community
No, a person cannot practice law in India without passing the All-India Bar Examination (AIBE). After completing an LLB degree from a recognized university, a law graduate must enroll with a State Bar Council and must clear the AIBE exam conducted by the Bar Council of India. Only after passing the exam, the advocate receives a Certificate of Practice , which allows him or her to practice law in any court in India.
So, without clearing AIBE, one cannot legally appear or argue in court.
Tip - Prepare well and be a successful lawyer.
